A while back I decided to muck around with my Safari nibs and do a writing comparison of my miscellaneous inks. Here are some of the scans. I know I did more, and when I find them I will post them. Pictures link through to Flickr for higher resolution.

 

Unless otherwise stated, the writing samples were from a filled pen with converter. The white paper is Staples Brand #28 Premium Laser Jet paper. The grid paper is Rhodia #14 pad. The lined paper is Clairefontaine A4 spiral bound notebook paper.

This is great for many reasons. Now can someone do on for the Pelikan nibs?

have to find some of that Heron.. looks like the tonal counterpart to Black Swan..

Ps.. the Pel brown above was very nice.. Pel black is my least favorite in Lamy-too dry.. the brown appears to be a-ok?

I'm gad someone else is finding these useful. I did this for my own neuroses and figured some of you lot might appreciate it, too! :P

 

p2p, check out some other scans of Bad Blue Heron before you send your money off. I couldn't quite get the right color. What I'm seeing above is a bit too vivid, at least on the white paper. Yes, Pelikan Brown is dreamy in my Lamy. I also like Orange Crush.

Is the line variation on the 1.1 really that poor? It looks to me like it's a round M nib that writes a little dry rather than a stub or CI.

It's probably the case of a poor calligrapher (me) using an inexact nib. For what it is worth, the 1.1 *is* more stubby than the M. I wouldn't call it dry at all. I'm just a poor hand! The general rumblings of FPN seem to have it that 1.5 and 1.9 give more variation than 1.1.

 

I'm sure Signum1 could make that 1.1 sing, though!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.
