A Vintage Ancora Dama In Bronze Celluloid

Recommended Posts

This pen is one of the first Damas produced, as it has some transition features from the previous Duplex serie (like the color of the celluloid, the nib and the feed).

It's an oversized pen and in very good condition - look how crisps are those facets!

Wow ... I'm not so expert on Ancora's pens, but this is also a lever filler, thinked that Da-Ma was a some kind of depression filler. Is this one another transitional feature?

Anyway congratulation for the wonderful find.

Simone, Da-Mas came both with lever filler or depression filler. Usually the depression fillers are rounded while the lever filler can be both rounded or faceted.

You can use the pics btw!

Ciao Roberto,

Ciao Andrea.

All Ancora Damas have that 18KR on the clip - but it means 18 Karat Rinforzato, so it's actually laminated and not solid gold, otherwise it would have had 18K (without R) imprinted.

Ciao!

Thanks! I see, Rinforzato it's a sort of a wonder-bra ante litteram... :)

As I said I know very little about Ancora, and having more info is always nice. I'll these to the wiki adding a reference to this discussion,

Thanks, I'll use them for sure, just give me some time!

Your photos are one of the biggest contribution I got for the wiki.

After some researchs, I have to add that Dama depression fillers also came in faceted shape and not only rounded as I wrote.

Wait- Ancora used to make pens like these?

When did they turn into all bling?

These are around second half of '30s.

Some info are here.

http://www.fountainpen.it/Ancora/en

I'm not totally sure about dates, is not much information is available about Ancora. Most of that came from the Letizia Jacopini book and for some personal research among collectors. For sure I can say that the Da-Ma was advertised in 1938, because I have one of such advertisement, you can see it in this page:

http://www.fountainpen.it/File:1938-Ancora-Dama.jpg

It seems that the original company was closed in 1975, and then the trademark was bought and a new production started.

I don't like too much modern pens in general, they mostly are "pacchiane", to use an italian word alike to "bling"...

And, for at least the few versions I saw, modern Ancora are very "pacchiane" (that's my taste if anyone like them that's their taste, so please don't flame me on this...).

New owner, new style. Fair enough.

I personally prefer the clean lines of the old models, but a lot of people loves the modern Ancora pens.

Here you can see few other models
