Diamine Damson

I am so terribly over excited about my recent interest in fountain pens and ink and everything that I leaped to attempt a review...so it is my first time for virtually everything. Tell me what I'm missing and I'd hope that with time, my handwriting & commentary will improve. Also I am pretty sure I completely ruined any sort of proper color calibration/lighting adjustment so apologies for screwing up possibly the most important part of a review?

I've not posted a review myself, but I thought this was a lovely first outing. :clap1: One of the review veterans will likely be along shortly to give you some constructive advice.

Glad you like the ink. Diamine is my favorite brand, and Damson is in heavy rotation with me. Private Reserve's Tanzanite and Purple Mojo round out my purple collection, but Damson was my first.

Keep posting, and welcome to the forum! :W2FPN:

Tweexcore,

Great ink review! Though you're new to fountain pens, you've learned a lot! To verify if one ink can show shading qualities you need to use broad nibs, M or more.

Enjoy the Fountain Pen World!

Fabricio

Passionate about inks, yes?

You might take a look at the suggestions from Ann on what to include in an Ink Review. I found it really good to ensure the Review covers aspects that may well be of interest to others.

Go for it!!

In my neck of the woods, Diamine Damson gets 5 meeps!! I love Damson -- you might also like Noodler's Nightshade, which is in the same color family. Also try Cacoa du Bresil by J. Herbin (not a purple, but an interesting gray/brown). Anyway, good review - keep 'em comin'! HP

Thanks for the review and welcome!

I love the darkness of this ink, it's my favourite purple so far.

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.

Nice! I think I may have to load one of my Lamys up with Damson soon!

You might try Diamine Violet -- it does this cool color shift as its drying.

  • 2 months later...

I just loaded this ink into one of my Parkers, and I love it! The rich colour is dark and subtle enough to use for regular "official" work, yet still has a bit more character than a plain blue or black ink. So lovely!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
