Since Orange is my favorite color, I MUST own a bottle of the Kin Mokusei. Off to check engika on ebay!

Just got all four from Taizo. Very lovely colors.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Is this the same as Engeika on eBay? I just checked and none are listed there.crybaby.gif

These Sailor LE inks are going to do me in, but I love the look of that orange and blue.

Yes, but I learned a while back to ask by email for things that I don't see listed. Also reminded me of his new site: http://www.engeika.com even though they aren't listed there either.

Are the colors discussed here the same as the Art Brown "new" colors, this has all become very confusing.

No, the four colours in this thread are the Fall 2010 LEs. The new inks Art Brown is carrying are the four Summer 2010 LEs. Global distribution for these lags behind Japanese distribution.

Last year Sailor discontinued all but its Jentle Black, Jentle Blue, Jentle Blue-black, Kiwaguro Black, and Seiboku Blue-black. They then began issuing seasonal limited editions, four colours to a season, sixteen colours in all, so far. These ones are 13 through 16, the ones Art Brown has are 9 through 12.

I just received my inks today and LOVE them!!! Each one is a beautiful color and all have exceptional shading properties. The Kin-Mokusei is now my official favorite orange ink. My only regret is that I did not order the Oku-Yama color. Overall, I had a very positive experience using the Voice shop via Rakuten link that was provided above. My order was shipped from Japan on October 18th, and I received them here in New Hampshire USA October 21st! Total cost per bottle shipped from Japan came to around $17 each. Here is a quick picture of the colors I bought:

Very pretty, Triplet Mom. I love your script!

I also picked up three bottles, though I opted for the Oku-yama and left off the Kin-mokusei, which, thanks to your lovely sample, I'm starting to regret.

The Oku-yama is pretty great, too, by the way. It's in the neighborhood of the new Diamines - a little bluer than Oxblood, a little darker than Syrah.

p.s. I wonder if Voice got inundated with foreign FPN ink orders and figured they needed a plan - I see they've got a new tag on their pages saying "This shop's items can be shipped overseas via forwarding service." I'm hoping it's just meant to encourage foreign orders, but I suspect it will mean higher shipping costs if they actually make use of an international order fulfillment system. Ah well.

I too ordered 3 of the inks from Voice and they arrived yesterday. I got the red, orange and dark turquoise colours. I will be very interested to compare the orange one with Caran d'Ache Saffron because on my monitor it looks pretty similar (which is fine with me).

I was a bit nervous about ordering the ink from Voice but it has been a positive experience overall so I am sure I will use them again to get the yummy Sailor limited edition inks.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone can upload a writing sample of Oku-Yama (the red one)?

Also, has anyone had experience with the summer 2010 ones that Art Brown is now selling? I am intrigued by Fuji-Musume and Souten.

Hi Simonerodrigue,

I have those three inks you mentioned and I do my best to upload a written sample for you later on today (my day).

Hi Simonerodrigue,

I don't want to steal karinh's thunder, but I made up a quick sample of Oku-yama between simonrodrigue's post and hers but didn't have a chance to scan it until now, so I thought I'd post it anyway. The more samples the merrier, right?

Regarding the Summer '10 inks, I've got the other two, Rikyu Cha & Doyou, so I'm very much looking forward to karinh's sample with the Fuji Musume & Souten. The Fuji Musume is very intriguing: it looks like a great colour, but I'm not sure if it is dark enough to get any use at my desk.

ETA - I'm no photographer, so we'll have to make due with a scan. The colours are true on my screen.

Here's a sample of the Souten and Fuji-musume. The Oku-yama is at the bottom of the page and it looks lghter than the sample drifting posted but that's because the pen is quite a dryish writer. Having seen drifting's sample I will transfer the cartridge to a wetter pen because it is nicer.

The sample I've posted is pretty close to real life, at least on my laptop monitor. The Fuji-musume is definitely a lilac rather than purple but it is very legible. The Souten is a lovely blue and I use it a lot. Both inks write really great in the TWSBI pens, by the way. I used Rhodia paper for my sample - the inks come out a bit darker on more absorbent paper (I use Reflex UltraWhite but that's possibly only in Australia?).

Please excuse my scribbles - I was in a hurry.

Edited to add that this is a photo, not a scan.

Wow! I love this forum. Thanks guys!!!!

I think the Fuji-musume is definitely too light to ever really get used in my pens, so I'm really happy to have seen the sample and not purchased it first. The Souten is gorgeous though and I am sorely tempted. The shading looks nice on it - subtle but there.

The Oku-yama is really, really pretty. But I have to wonder if I would ever use it over my home made mix of De Atramentis Aubergine and PR Burgundy Mist.

No matter what I buy or don't buy, I really, mightily appreciate the ink samples. Thanks so much!

Just bumping this thread to say that I finally had a chance to use the ones I have - the orange Kin-Mokusei and the blue Yama-Dori. The orange is gorgeous, but the blue is even better! It has taken over the lead for my favourite blue from De Atramentis' steel blue. And that's saying something, because I have journal after journal written in steel blue, I love it that much. But Yama-Dori is the new reigning champ. :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
