I'm sorry, but ... why does it matter that the ink is "made" by Noodler's, Private Reserve, Pelikan, or anyone else? From all appearances, the ink is formulated by Baer/Binder, and who mixes and bottles it in accordance with their specific instructions is irrelevant.

I don't get from what I have seen so far that these inks are formulated by Gate City. It sounds much more likely that the general characteristics were specified, samples were prepared, and they chose hues/properties they preferred. I'd say the ink manufacturer would very much be the one behind the formula if that is indeed true. I don't think the manufacturer is simply mixing.

Yes you are basically correct in that our manufacturer is indeed the "chemist" who chooses the dyelots, ingredients, additives etc. BUT based on what Richard and I wanted the properties of the ink to be!!

Hues are also critical. Our True Blue has been likened by many who have seen it to be a very close approximation of the old Parker Penman Saphire without the nasties of that ink!

Aw, man, you already had me sold on the ink. Now I'm going to be crazed with anticipation.

@framebaer

I am searching for a new ink I can sell before courses, because some people bring completely unsuited inks for copperplate with them.

Do you think your ink is something that would work nicely, maybe for dip-pens too? Is it possible to get samples to Europe?

I can't believe I just saw this thread. I think buying all the bottles is the only way I'm gonna get over my "Edelstein Depression." I think your colors look great, and what a pleasure to get the inks designed for all those specifications and reasonable price. Then there's the benefit of your copious testing and trials to give extra assurance. Brilliant!

Seriously, Richard & Jim, what a great and bold idea to come up with. I'll be ordering a pen today. The Senior Ruby/Black looks beautiful. Now I have to pick a nib.

With any luck, the True Blue will successfully fulfill my desire for Visconti Blue.

Do we have a release date yet, or are we still waiting for those dyes to finish flying about our heads in a million pieces?

We know, we know!

I've been in italy for the last 2 weeks ( my wife viewed the fact of our daughter studing in Siena this fall as clearly reason enough for a 2 week Italian adventure!) and so out of touch with our supplier ( i wasn't allowed to bring my laptop!).

I'm hoping for good news that production has started when I get back tomorrow.

I wonder how it compares to Parker Penman Saphire.

Somewhere I read a comment, it may even have been from Richard or Jim, that the True Blue was indeed close to Penman Sapphire. I can't find the exact reference, it also could have been mentioned on richardspens.com. Only knowing Sapphire from pictures and its reputation, I'm very excited for the Everflo.

Best,

Way cool. I scored several lifetimes of Penman Saphire, and I will be sure to compare them.

They're good-looking positive colours, and you have my gratitude for calling it "India Green" and not "Irish". There's enough Stage Irish on the go to sink every ship that ever fled the Famine.

I hope "fast drying" doesn't equate to increased feathering/bleed-thru on mediocre paper.

Ink needs a clotting mechanism, like blood. Been saying that for years.

I'm watching my Waterman Blue-Black dry to a pretty teal color. And thinking... if only this were a little blacker and bluer! :o And.. didn't dry to .. teal... :crybaby:

So--if Everflo Blue-Black doesn't go to teal, and has all the nifty qualities of Waterman Blue Black, I'll be buying a bottle!

UPDATE:

Well, talked with our ink supplier yesterday, and if production finishes according to schedule, I should receive the ink on Saturday and Richardspens.com should be selling on Monday!

<drags in the dancing bunny.... :bunny01: > Could you comment on the blue-black and what to expect from it? As mentioned earlier, I love the flow and easy-clean up properties of Waterman Blue-Black, but I wish it were a darker color and didn't dry to a tealish blue.

Thank you!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
