Wow. That is pretty exciting. Sounds like the flow and lubrication properties are what many of us were hoping the Pelikan Edelstein inks would have, but didn't deliver.

I know that the bottles used by Noodler's are just stock economical bottles that could be had by anyone, but since Everflo is using the same 3oz bottles (hurray for more ink for your buck!), they are "inspired by vintage inks", and they claim good waterproof-ness is it possible that Nathan may be somehow involved in the development of these inks along with Mr. Binder? Just a wild speculation with no grounds other than those tidbits, but the idea of it is very exciting. Hopefully more illumination will come soon...

I guess someone up in Nashua was bitten by the ink making bug after the success of a certain Burgundy...

Not so wild, Truppi. I had the same thought. Will be interesting to see what comes of it. I would like some Noodler's type inks that aren't quite so saturated.

I thought I heard some place that Private Reserve was behind the inks and Bexley was behind the pens. Can anyone confirm/refute?

I'd be interested to try it. Sounds like my kind of thing, although I think I like my inks more saturated than Binder seems to recommend.

Bexley is definitely behind the pens, I think it was mentioned here on FPN by someone from Nashua or it was on Binder's blog. I haven't heard the rumor about PR being behind the inks though.

You are correct about the pens, incorrect about the ink.

An update on the ink:

Our manufacturer is waiting for shipment of approved dye lots to commence first production run. Should all happen in the next several weeks. Can't reveal the maker yet other than to say our ink is being produced in the USA.

Binder has actually acknowledged it himself on the writing instruments forum (Bexley that is). No idea about the ink. He is actually kind of down on PR and Noodler's http://www.richardspens.com/?pens=gct . Not a total recommendation against, but he thinks both are high maintenance.

I think that is why the theory of Noodler's having a hand in doing the inks is so exciting.

Could be. FWIW, I really like noodler's inks for the most part.

Hi,

We are actually claiming vintage ink style water resistence. This means minor water spillages won't obliterate the writing but they are DEFINITELY NOT WATERPROOF.

In fact, one of our key criteria for these inks was that they be "washable" from fingers at the end of the day and from clothes ( nib tuning splatter can occasionally be tough on shirts).

We are really pleased with the final samples and can't wait for production to begin! Further, the list of properties given on the website is in fact the design parameters that we gave to our manufacturer who has come through with ( dare we say) flying colors!

My bad. Thanks for making the distinction. In my excitement I read the description a touch quickly on the Gate City site.

If these inks are able to deliver on all the properties you have outlined it will be extremely exciting. Is there an ETA on when we may know what the price range of these inks may be? Having an affordable ink by volume will be another desirable quality!

sounds very promising. Very much looking forward to seeing these inks. Except for VV, I've had issues with most of the waterproof colors. Perhaps because I am not into high maintenance and I always have more pens inked than I can use in a day - so pens tend to sit. Some resistance and good flow and really good lubrication would be very nice. Not to mention the pretty colors. :)

I am now officially really, really excited for these inks to hit the market. Much more so than I was for the Pelikan Edelsteins even. Are we allowed to know the colors yet?

Binder ... is actually kind of down on PR and Noodler's http://www.richardspens.com/?care=inks . Not a total recommendation against, but he thinks both are high maintenance.

I'm afraid you've misread what I wrote. I'm not down on PR or Noodler's; being high maintenance does not make an ink bad any more than being high maintenance makes wet shaving bad. I have a lot of respect for both makers, and I quite like Noodler's inks -- if they're used with attention to what they're designed to do and what they require of their users. (For example, don't use bulletproof inks unless you actually need criminal-proof permanence, and don't expect these inks to stay free flowing if you fill once a week for a year without ever flushing.)

The key difference between EVERFLO™ and inks like PR and Noodler's lies in the company's philosophy. No ink can be all things to all people. PR and Noodler's decided to make modern inks, high in color saturation for a dramatic appearance on the paper. Noodler's went further to create bulletproof, Polar, UV, and other specialty inks. We designed our ink to behave like vintage inks. That means we specifically did not go for heavy saturation, bulletproofness, and so forth. The only vintage quality we avoided was a high deviation from neutral pH: no Omas Blue (pH 1.8) or "51" ink (pH 12+) here. I don't have the numbers yet, but EVERFLO inks are close to pH neutral. The design philosophy understood, we've put a lot of effort into creating attractive colors. They won't blow your eyeballs out, but they won't hurt, either. :)

Kcat, you are our perfect customer! :)

We really did design this ink with exactly what you are saying in mind. We have been field testing the ink by filling many pens with it and letting them sit for various periods and then making sure they would start right up. This was one key parameter for us. Our philosophy is, if we are NOT going for the modern speciality ink market, our inks had better behave wonderfully in most other respects as we have listed. Our secondary philosophy is, "if we wouldn't use it, then we won't sell it." Richard, Barbara, and I -- and several beta testers -- have been using these inks since July. In fact Richard has had no other ink in his pens since we got the samples.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
