... Fs : My Handcrafted Journals ...

I have tested out the Clairefontaine TRIOMPHE paper in White in pad form.

It takes ink pretty well.

The ink test you see here was made with a very wet Stipula Etruria Alter Ego <0.9> Stub filled with Pelikan Brilliant Brown Ink.

The paper is only 90gsm which is thin.

It writes pretty smooth too ...

Because it is a high white, the reverse of the page will show up the 'shadow' of the written side , especially if a dark coloured ink is used as illustrated here.

I only have very limited quantities of this popular paper - enough to craft only 6 (six) A6 sized journals.

And so I am offering only 6(six) A6 sized journals for sale.

NONE are crafted yet.

This means that you can pick past cover designs or a fresh yet-to-be-featured cover design which you need to contact me for further liaison and we can work something out.

I need unhurried time to craft each journal as I do not do these full-time. So I cannot commit a certain time to deliver the completed journal. You need to be very patient with me here. :)

No limits as to how many each person can order. :)

Usual $prices apply (as you can read from my one and only FS post on journals), ie more expensive depending on materials used

BUT

add USD$2 for this paper.

Because of the thinner paper , the overall journal when completed will be slightly thinner in its thickness.

The pages will be less stiff compared to my usual offerings of 135gsm to 120gsm paper.

If you do sketches and washes, I expect this paper to warp from the wetness.

I expect this paper to NOT bleed even though I have not tested it with washes.

Just dab with a dry tissue when doing your washes. :)

As usual, the journal will contain 7 signatures of 4 folios each resulting in 112pages total.

Subtracting my usual ink testpage and the Colophon, there will be 110 writing pages remaining.

First come first served, whether via post or PM.

Thanks for looking. :)

Exciting! :bunny01: I'd like to order 2 then. I will look through the pictures of past journals and send you an update about which covers/colors.

edit:

How about:

1) #60 - happy humpbacks

2) #53 - blue chrysanthemum

Are my choices okay? I'm happy to switch as well depending on the availability of your supplies or what you think would look better.

I did a test on the REVERSE side of the CF paper bcos I heard someone remarked to me that certain CF papers work well only on one side.

But to my relief, it posed no problems whatsoever ...

Here is the test as usual with my very wet 0.9mm stub

Because the CF paper is thinner at 90gsm, the resulting bookblock is also slimmer compared to my usual offering of 135gsm writing paper.

Here is a pic of a completed journal (#60A "Happy Humpbacks)

the total thickness is about 15mm only.

The usual 135gsm paper is about 20mm thick

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
