... it's the nib section that puzzles me soooo much (in that all other manifacturers build pens with no removable sections at all, and often even the nib unit is hard , or impossible, to remove) because if that part unscrews (no wrench required) a 2cc ink tsunami will eventually follow  ...

A lot of my pens with similar Schmidt nib/feed assemblies screw out like the TWSBI. Those other manufacturer's just don't tell us it's possible.

play around with this pen, don't worry to break it, every parts is replaceable :happyberet:

Is there an easy way to fill one of these with a syringe? If say, you don't have enough ink to fill it traditionally?

Yeah, pop the nib off and you have easy access for a syringe. It's the same opening as an international sized cartridge

For me, the nib sizes don't really vary that much. I don't really care - it's a great pen for the money and to ask more would just be cheeky!

I think you can use syringe, by screw off the grip section, then you see the hole to inject into the barrel.

When I do the testing, I normally use one sheet of same paper putting on the same leather pad filling with same ink, then compare. It work for me.:D

first filling is difficult to get full tank because of air inside.

Here is how you can get full tank. After first filling, tip up the pen near the opening of the ink bottle, slowly turn the barrel end cap move the piston up little by little; the traped air will come out from the nib. When you see it is about time, tip down and fill more ink.

Now you get full tank of ink to make cannonball run from LA to New York.

This method works great. It is the same thing I do with other piston fillers or converter pens.

Well apparently I'm the first to 'break' one! :headsmack:

How do you get the blind cap back onto the piston assembly? Some water got in mine while flushing, annd... you know the rest. I can get it back on, but it's not flush with the pen body with the piston all the way up, and unscrews very easily when dropping the piston.

Not too sure if I'm the first to get the TWSBI Pen from the Presale but I'm as excited as a school boy right now !!

I've decided to leave the reviews to the experts (adding the suspense factor for those out there still waiting for it) but I will include some pictures for everyone to enjoy until then !

Here goes :

Mini-review up on my site if anyone is interested.

I've been using this pen all day. I'm still loving it, and it does get better with use. I'm finding that I've got better flow and fewer skips today than yesterday.

That's great news and I hope you get a positive response from Mr. Bock. I'll be the first in line for a BB or B nib. In the meantime, I'll make do with my medium.

Dizzy,

Did you see the post by Speedy that discusses the remedy for the ink finding its way behind the piston? It's Here: Notice About Piston Sealing

The reason I point it out is that I read your excellent review and saw that you seem to have the same problem/issue.

Very Best Regards,

Stephen

Nice review Dizzypen ! (Love that old typewriter post too btw!)

On another note - I was just thinking that it would have been just so cool if the first 300 presale lot of pens were numbered !

I did this too. What you need to do is use trial and error to preplace the piston so that by the time you crew down the blind cap, the piston is in the right place.

I'd like to add some more refined impressions of mine.

Before I went to sleep I wrote out a few long lines on a brown paper bag. I next wrote with it this afternoon, and the nib was much more wet and consistent than before. The nib might even by slightly smoother. I'm guessing this is from ink being able to saturate the feed effectively rather than the brown paper bag trick. Speedy was right about being patient and "writing the nib in" - it's paid off. On certain strokes the line sometimes gets very thin, but it's nowhere near as troublesome as it was when I first picked it up.

I do notice some very minor leakage behind the first piston seal, but I'm not terribly worried about it. I do notice that the pen tends to get hard to grip after a little bit of writing - if the section didn't flare wider towards the tip I'd probably have a bit of trouble gripping it. I'd suggest a slightly larger diameter for the section for future pens.

The more I use the Twsbi Diamond 530 the more I appreciate certain nuances. For example, I just noticed that the nib is perfectly in-line with the clip when capped rather than some random angle, greatly satisfying my obsessive-compulsive personality. As noted before, fit and finish are excellent.

Speedy, thanks again for a great product!

- Jon

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
