A blank Bible!

Some time ago I read about a journal or notebook here,produced by a company in glasgow, and which was bound and made of onionskin paper as used in Bibles.

I lost the link on my computer.I would really like to get one of these.Can anyone remembber the post or give me a link to it.

Here's a link to a US online store where you can buy the journals. They are a bit pricey. However, the British pound is dropping in value against the dollar so maybe we'll see better price in the future.

Allan's journals are magnificent to say the least, a bit on the pricey side but well worth it.

With the Euro going down they should be a little more economical to purchase. By the way they

are FP friendly.

Interesting, that "semi-yapp style". This from Britannica: yapp:book-binding with projecting limp leather cover. XIX. Name of a London bookseller to whose order the binding was first made.

Lovely journals. I have one I started over a year ago and it still looks like new although I carry it around in my briefcase every day. I have two more in reserve.

 

The latest versions have been modified slightly and look even nicer. Delightful company to do business with - from a happy customer.

 

I use a fine or medium-fine nib and Diamine Registrars ink as some inks do show through the very thin paper. I suggest using the back page to experiment before committing yourself on the front page.

Why do companies feel the need to put "Journal" on the covers of journals? These are wonderful looking, and maybe I should be happy that that detail is keeping me from spending too much, but it still is annoying to me. I know what it is!

I bought one-a smaller one in dark brown leather.Its smaller than I imagined,but the website does set out the size so I ought to have paid more attention to that.It was £20 and its a lovely thing-just like a Bible or prayer book.I havent used it yet,but it came the next day, so a very big thank you for great service.It has lovely fine paper ,lined, and gold edged, with 256 pages. I recommend the company, and I have no affiliation with them

what a shame to find out about there when the Aussie dollar is on a downward slope from it's record high against the british pound! Do the world leaders realise how much their mistakes affect our buying habits!

R L Allan and Sons are well known for their bible (re)binding. I have a soft (pun not intended) spot for goatskin leather bindings as they feel very nice in the hand, especially when they are done with a leather lining (no horrible cardboard inside) and it opens up to fall nicely into your hands when you open the volume.

 

The only problem I would have is that I would feel terribly guilty if I had to doodle in one of these journals. But they would complement very nicely my collection of calfskin and goatskin bibles that I already have.

I agree with WillSW. I find lovely journals that I would love to buy but every single one has the word Journal written on the front cover. Do the publishers think we are going to buy one, find out there are no words in it, and sue them for failing to tell us that its a journal?

A plain leather cover with no words on the front is my dream journal. I have a few but it took many hours of effort to find or make them myself.

No answer to your question, but you'll definitely not want an Allan's journal: the line spacing is an impressively small 4 mm! Love mine, but it requires EF nibs in my smallest hand, for sure!

They used to say 'ALLAN'S JOURNAL', so count yourself lucky!

 

I think these books could be so good, - a sort of 'Smythson for the rest of us' except for two things, the size and the line thickness. The first I can cope with if I must, but the thin lines are something else. Why? I mean, really, why??? Does everybody in Scotland have excruciatingly tiny writing? An unlined version (with a blank cover)would be snapped up in huge quantities.

Those journals are so nice, I'd hate to despoil them with my writing! I never thought anything I could write would be worthy of a nice, leather-bound journal.
