Made one of my Patterns today. Quick one. I hope I'll find the energy to do big ones some day. Also my hand still cramps a bit since the brainthing last year when doing such things. At least normal writing isn't an issue anymore. But precise lines are difficult.

Perle noire by J.Herbin, Lamy Joy with a Z53 F by the way.

The parting is terrible, not because you were left alone, but because you yourself gave your part, and this part is gone forever ... After that, the most important thing will not turn into Voldemort.

I am not a fan of Manga and Anime, but today my eldest son came up to me and said “that you draw some kind of nonsense all the time, better can draw something interesting … for example Eula Lawrence” :). A son is a son, so I going to draw something interesting :).

I have a few highlights from the past 3 months or so.

day7fan.thumb.png.ca2c4313592d3354f902186486d97be7.png

From inktober. Done with Noodler's Heart of Darkness ink on Rhodia N° 19 pad. Used a Zebra G nib in an Ahab Pen. For better or worse this is a B&W scan.

crispysquirrel.thumb.png.5e409e47f4554aeabe0b2a0adba94a03.png

Also from inktober. Same media.

arcticgroundsquirrel02.thumb.png.dba90454889670055c244ef4e2feefd7.png

This one is an Arctic Ground Squirrel. R&K Alt-goldgrün ink on Rhodia N° 16. Done with a heavily modified Noodler's untipped flex nib in an Ahab.

jellyfishwash02.thumb.png.96b5db7f155906451b1a2e8c0bc0e4c2.png

R&K Alt-goldgrün ink on unknown bristol board paper; I'm not 100% sure which pen/nib I used for this. Probably Zebra G/Ahab. Also used a Pentel waterbrush. This was my second experiment with waterbrush. Pretty fun medium.

American Red Squirrel. Noodler's Walnut ink on unknown bristol board paper. Pentel waterbrush and (I think) Ohto Tasche pen with Diplomat Magnum Extra Fine nib.

This last one is really just a doodle, but I drew it after picking up a vintage Waterman nib (from Five Star Pens) and putting it into my Nib Creaper pen. It's a seriously amazing nib. As you can see it doesn't get crazy amounts of line variation, but it can draw extremely fine lines. It's also pretty amazingly smooth compared to other extra fine nibs I've used. According to the Binder scale the slow downstroke is around a Japanese Extra Fine, but it can also get finer lines than that, particularly when drawn horizontally.

The drawing is done with Platinum Classic Forest Black ink on Fabriano Eco Qua paper.

forgot to add information about the black bear drawing, also was out of chronological order

Nice work!  The last sketch made me laugh (but now I'm earworming Blue Oyster Cult...).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
