Finally found a really good use for Noodlers Kiowa Pecan.

Also trying out a new (to me) watercolour paper, Daler Rowney 300gsm (140lb) cold pressed.

Sumi-E brush, toothbrush and some detailing with a Tachikawa School G F nib Sepia ink.

Tas, how do you like Daler Rowney? Not so long ago I tried a sketchbook A6, 120gsm from a friend. The size is too small for me, but the ink holds well on paper which is a little rough and fibrous, I think for Platinum will not good choice. I wanted to buy one, but where I am now there is no this product, I need to order it from WWW online-store.

Loving the four seasons. A beautiful  combination of colours.

It's my first work on Daler Rowney watercolour paper. It seems to be a little more forgiving than my usual paper and it dries a lot flatter. At first, I was concerned about the lack of texture (I like what Bob Ross used to call the "happy accidents" that can come from it) but on closer inspection, I think it's really lovely. Less uniform than some. Takes fine lines, even Tachikawa School G EF, really well. So far so good . . . :)

To be honest I would love to try some high end papers but now's not the time. I bought 50 sheets of A3 for around £22 delivered so it's cheap enough to experiment. Go on. Have a go. I'd love to see some of your work on it.

Thanks for the info, Tas! Your price is really nice.

I have not yet decided on the desired format for sketches A5 or A4. Last year I bought a roll of Canson Montval (10 * 1.5m) with fine grain and I also really like it, there is a little texture. I also have several local brand watercolor paper and would like to try something higher quality too, but often I don't want to spend more :).

Yes. I thought so too.

The Canson Montval's texture looks very similar to the Daler Rowney Aquafine I have. I never know what size a piece is going to be, hence A3 and guillotine!

One day we'll both splash out and get some Saunders Waterford, Canson Heritage or Arches of somekind - woo hoo.

Hey, FPNers - long time no see :)

A 15 minute sketch using Parker 61 and (slightly dried out and so more saturated) J. Herbin Bleu Miosotis

Drawn from the picture taken last year when I was on vacations there.

The very last castle built in Normandy by Richard the Lionheart

Great artwork as usual!

How do you like the Monteverde Omniflex nib? I've seen mixed opinions of them.

Hi, and thanks Ruth! I have not tried the Monteverde Omniflex nib, I bought the Conklin Omniflex nib, but as I understand the manufacturer is the same. Impressions from this nib - is terrible, Here I described them in detail (English). 2 post higher - Erich Maria Remarque drawing by this, but corrected and adjusted nib yet. So far, this is the biggest disappointment of all fountain pens and accessories for all the time that I am interested in this.

Thanks. Good to know. I guess I'll pass on the nib if I do end up getting a Monteverde pen at some point). The only one I've tried was a nail of an M nib on someone's Mountains of the World pen a few years ago -- but it was a very smooth writing nail....

I wanted to somehow buy one Monteverde (Regata in black & orange), but something went wrong and I didn't buy :). I have not tried these nibs. I tried several Conklin pens, I have no complaints about ordinary nibs - they can even be said to be soft, not nails, smooth and write :). But this nib(omniflex) is just a misunderstanding. Everything that Gulet's feedback write about this nib is true, but I wanted to make sure of it myself :).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
