Nice looking bottle, but what/where, prey tell, is the "second chamber or add on device for easy filling"?

That is a pretty bottle. I also add my vote for a travel inkwell. I already have ink and I have empty bottles. I also have a just mobile enough lifestyle that I don't want to have empty bottles (save the environment and what not) or end up leaving behind (throwing out) something pretty that I can't take with me. A traveling inkwell though is a much emptier market, consisting mostly of $100 Viscontis or $10 plastic bottles. An ascetically pleasing middle ground would be great. You could keep the same basic design, just make it thinner and a little taller.

Another thought for a refillable bottle is making it easy to thoroughly clean. Some saturated inks will coat glass and many plastics to the point that water/soap/ammonia will not remove them. Can you make a removable bottom to allow access to the inside of the bottle with paper towel?

I suggested to Speedy that he make a traveling ink pot. I personally don't think the world needs another ink bottle design, especially if there is no ink being sold. In my personal opinion, a travelling inkwell is a very high-value accessory that will be great fit if Twsbi is making alternative filling systems for the masses (piston, vacuum, etc).

If it's an either/or situation, I'd rather see an affordable travelling inkpot/well. I wouldn't mind a matching bottle at all, but I have plenty of bottles--on the other hand it's difficult to find a travelling solution that accomodates my pens. Vintage travellers are almost exclusively for dip pens, and the Visconti won't even fit most of my pens, let alone being horribly expensive (imo) for what it is. At the moment, I am using one of those little "sample" jelly jars that come with food-based gift baskets, and it's amazing to me that this is the most useful option I've found...

I am thinking to make on desk bottle and traveling bottle two separate project. First I get the desk bottle done (from this project, I will a little bit more about ink bottle) then proceed the traveling bottle (it seemed many people like to have one, your wished are my job to fulfill). Traveling bottle should be made by plastic to prevent broken.

the first draft is to have your feed back on external design. It seemed 99% of the people like it (good news). It will have add on device for filling. I already asked my people to check with glass bottle maker to learn more about the limitation on glass bottle. after confirmed then we may need to modify the design a little bit then we will draw the add on device...

Then I will likely be getting one of the desk bottles just to match the pens, and at least a couple of the traveling bottles (to carry more than one colour, you know).

That is good news! I probably won't buy the desk bottle, but if your traveling ink bottle is a good design (preferably one that can get your future plunger filler 100%) I'll definitely buy that one! :vbg:

I don't think an add-on will look very good in a clear bottle. It needs to have a think, solid glass bottom with the narrow well cut into it. IMO.

Inked:

Pelikan m205 black 0.9ci/F Italifine (Diamine Damson);

Aurora 88 nikargenta (Iroshizuku Kon-Peki);

Pelikan 140 Steno (J Herbin Lie de Thé)

Speedy - My main concern with that design is that it will not store well, leaving lots of unusable space in a drawer/box. Could you not square the base off, so that many several bottles would fit snugly together in storage? (see CdA and Herbin designs)

Apart from that, it looks really lovely. The top looks nice and wide for fatter pens, and it looks deep enough in which to emerse large piston fillers (eg Pel M1000). How much ink will it hold? I always think 80+ ml takes too long to get through, increasing the chance of it going bad (contamintated) and 30 ml is too little, like a trial size. 50ml seems a good compromise. Waht does everyone else think?

a good point to consider. I will study the situation after some more information from the glass bottle maker...

yes, you are right about the storage issue, but I think that's the trade off of if we want a different looking bottle.

we haven't decide the container volume yet, due to trying to get your opinion on design first. Thank you for giving us suggestion of the 50ml ink volume.

50ml is a popular size for ink vendors to sell ink as well. Pilot and MB, along with a few others generally sell their bottles in 50mL quantity.

50ml is a nice size, perhaps a thicker bottom and you can use it as a press papier.

BTW today a saw a nice bottle, almost like your design but with a (damn my english is bad) euh.. piece on top with a ball in it, so you could fill that up with ink when turning the bottle up side down, and after putting it straight up, the ball wich you could not see holds the ink in the upper part so you could fill your pen with eas.

P.S. so for my english but it is not my native language

about traveling ink bottle, I never see one before (and I cannot afford to buy a expensive one as sample, hahaha!). I have question about cap area, is special sealing design or filling mechanism needed? Can someone show me a photo, or direct me to a link so I can get the clear view? This one will be made by plastic, only a few parts be needed, if everything is clear, we can ran both bottle project in same time.biggrin.gif

Here is a link I found by goggling "visconti traveling ink pot". This is someone's Picasa account. That picture and several after it should the detail of an old style ink pot. Their since change the style a bit but they still work off the same general principal.

The cap is tapered as you can see in the picture. Inside the ink pot there is a tapered rubber gasket. When the pen is inserted into the pot the gasket forms a leak-proof seal so that you can invert the pot and let gravity help you fill the pen.

Visconti ink pot info.

Once again, if you make a nice desk inkbottle, make sure it can be cleaned with either a brush or paper towel. Some inks (e.g. Noodlers Bulletproof inks) leave a film that water, soapy nor ammoniated, will remove.

Here it is posted by another member in the ink bottle thread. "This eightsided bottle is designed in 1936 by Andries Dirk Copier (1901 - 1991) for the Dutch ink manufacture Gimborn. It comes in two varieties, the more common "langhals" (long neck) and the smaller "babylanghals". The stop is of black/brown bakelite, a post WO2 variety being yellow plastic."

How does it manage to trap ink in the upper section? It seems like magic to me.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
