18 x Sailor Nagasawa Kobe Inks

I was looking at AltecGreen's post here and decided to order 18 of the 22 inks listed at Rakuten's site here (skipped Yellow & Gold Frontier, & they were out of stock of Bordeaux and Sepia) of these Sailor Kobe inks. Once you order, the communication emails is all in Japanese characters, which I copied into Google Translate, and could pretty much figure out how things were proceeding. It was delivered with EMS, and one of the emails had a tracking number. I didn't get hit with any customs/duty charges. All the charges were in Yen, so I'll find out later how much hit my credit card.

Then the bottles arrived with only Japanese identifying characters on the bottles and carton. I matched up the various squiggly characters (no insult intended to our esteemed Japanese members) on the bottles to the squigglies on the packing invoice, which each had an ink number. Then went back to the website to luckily find that they gave a sympathetic english description for each ink correlating with the deciphered ink product number which I wrote down. Lastly, I labeled a yellow sticky on the boxes and on the bottom of each bottle (with some Noodler's White Peacock Paint) so I will always know what I have. Whew!

I used a typical glass dip pen to write a short sample, which unfortunately always comes out too generously as compared to use in a real pen, so some of the colors look too dark, but at least I smeared it at the end. So this is more of a listing of these additional Sailor-Kobe colors. I may review some of them in a real pen later. These are thumbnails if you want a higher res view.

Thanks, Sam.

1. Are any water-resistant?

2. I'd be afraid to see a Noodlers label depicting the name of Kobe #5.

You are a rock star.

I've been cruising Rakuten trying to decide if my next ink order will be some Sailor Seasonal LEs or (a subset of) these Kobe inks. Your scan has firmed up my choices for when I do order. Thanks!

Ryan.

Have not gotten that far, but I guess I could put some water on that sheet now that I have it captured as an image.

ROFL...I had the same reaction with "Black Dong" which sounds like an excellent porn star name for Rita's other thread!!!

I wonder if any Japanese can tell what the Japanese words mean in English for some of the inks.

If you guys order from that link, the number chart/name will help sorting it out...but you still have to match up the squiggly characters on the bottle to the invoice, as the bottle/box does not list the Kobe number (which you need to find the name).

I was also surprised that the Blue Sailor we get locally doesn't seem to match any of those blues exactly...probably closest to "Waterfront."

Good going Sam.

I love these inks and rank them as equal to the Pilot Iroshizuku inks.

I waiting for my return from exile before I order the rest of the inks I don't have from this series. Of course, they just added the two yellow colors. Nagasawa seems to be expanding the color range. The original series was 16 inks and now it's up to 22.

Now to figure out how to get the Sailor Hougado Soseki inks. Unfortunately, Hougado Pengalley does not ship internationally.

Exile... T-3.... and counting....

Ahaaaaaaaaaaah! headsmack.gif

What's the total T? You need to use SI for time to avoid confusion in units... I got confused.

Yellow inks! Eweu!

I use yellow inks only for mixing... or writing in the snow...

The total time is ~3,283,200 s. SI units are not good for everything. They are horrible for E&M. I prefer cgs units for E&M.

The yellow inks are not lemon or bannana yellow but more of a gold color.

SGS are okay in lab experiments. I can live with them. Though, I prefer meters... to stay away from inches as far as possible. You know what happened when engineers mixed up inches with cms. We missed the planet!

But... 38 days? It's definitely... RED RUM....

It's a nice name for an ink though.

Something like #4, red kitano = red rum... Looks perfect!

It's so hard to figure out what is going on. Using google translate is good fun. It looks like the inks on this page are bespoke (custom made ? from other Sailor colors?) and sold out. I can add the Hougado inks to my Rakuten basket, from the google translate, but then I'm not sure if you can check out. Searching the En version of Rakuten doesn't bring up Hougado, Souseki.

Rakuten represents many more retailers than what is on the international site. The international site has the dealers who are willing to ship overseas. Hougado Pengallery does not ship internationally and do not appear there. These inks have been around for a few years and they got Sailor to package them in nicer looking bottles. Hougado PenGallery also have special versions of the ProGear in custom transparent colors that match their inks. Although, Ujuku shop sells a couple of these now.

Sailor has an inks works that will make special batches for retailers. This is also true for pens. Unfortnately, Sailor only offers this service to Japanese retailers. According to Leigh Reyes's blog, Mr. Yoshida of Nakaya uses a custom black-brown made for him by the Sailor guys.

I understand your points, and the Hougado shipping policy, but I cannot give up just like that. Where would the fun be? :bunny01: Next step is to call in some favors from some Japanese friends.

You could just contact Hougado and see if they will ship.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
