Cartier Pasha & Roadster

Hello All,

I've been roaming around here for a while and I've decided to make a contribution by making my first post! This past weekend my local pen store had a sale that I couldn't resist so I went in to try EVERYTHING. Compared to everything else in the store, I really enjoyed the Cartier Pasha and the Cartier Roadster that I bought both. I am a bit surprised that both of these pens do not have much said about them here. These are the smoothest pens I've ever tried/owned. Both are medium point pens and I attached a photo with my handwriting with Private Reserve black and blue fast dry inks on Rhodia paper. The two nib photos here the Pasha is on the left/Roadster is on the right.

Hello and welcome.

I assume you are based in the U.S. - it is true that Cartier pens seem not to be that popular there, at least this is my impression.

They are really fine and smooth writing instruments and people would be surprised if they would give them a try. Perhaps if there are not that popular, you could also get them in very attractive prices...

I have few Pashas, but sadly in roller ball. They are a bit heavy on the hand, but boy, their design and finish is certainly impressive. Should post a review when I get some spare time.

I'm not crazy about the way the pens look visually, but zomg those NIBS are amazing. And your photographs are totally great.

Cartier and Dunhill are part of the Richemont Group as is Montblanc. They do not get as much discussion as the latter, but both make very exceptional pens.

Thanks for posting Shuttercraze, especially the writing samples. I've recently decided that the Pasha is my next big buy (the pens feel great in the hand, and I love the clean lines and styling (elegant and classic, but modern and pared down)). This is the first time I've seen a writing sample, and I'm glad to hear that owners love the nibs.

Thanks a million! Enjoy your new pen.

My wife just brought me the Roadster and is saving it for my birthday as it was reduced Paradise pen was having a sale. It writes beautifully but posted is a little top heavy. Isn't Cartier one of the few remaining pen manufactures that still hand polishes their nibs. I think they are very handsome unassuming looking pens.

I actually LOVE Cartier pens and envy the fact that you have both the Pasha and the Roadster. For me, they are both dream pens puddle.gif

Wow, love the nib design on the Roadster.

The sword is mightier than the pen. However, swords are now obsolete whereas pens are not.

Cartier always know how to make classy stuff.

I love their watches, perfume and pen.

They always impress me and the longer I have them the more I appreciate them.

I agree they are both lovely looking pens. I have been looking for a Diabolo to match my ballpoint for quite a while but they aren't easy to come by and even second hand their prices seem to be really high. So far I've never found the 'right' one. My ballpoint has GP fittings not white GP, so they seem to be even more difficult to find.

Has production of the Pasha stopped?

I swore I would never get another c/c. Are there compensating qualities other than its drop-dead gorgeous looks?

I believe the Pasha line has been discontinued now. Not sure what you mean by compensating qualities - these are high end pens!! Most fountain pens these days are cc fillers, so I wouldn't restrict yourself to piston fillers.

Fit and finish, build quality, nib qualities, balance etc.

I have been trying to limit myself, yes.

Does anyone remember its MSRP?

They are in the very same league than dupont and dunhill, top of the range stuff. Extremely well made. Congrats on the pens

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Just got one on sale locally. Original retail I think was $650? Beautiful pen; haven't inked it yet as I am considering giving it as a gift to my son.

Your Cartier fountain pens look great. Enjoy them !

I own several Louis Cartier fountain pens, limited editions myself. They are absolutely amazing.

Perfectly balanced, very well made and details worked out to perfection. You really can tell Cartier is a jewelry maker.

I buy them as NOS or pre-owned. As long as they are in perfect condition. Never have to pay top dollar (Euro) for them in The Netherlands. Nobody seems to want them.

I have been looking for Roadster and Art-Déco fountain pens for some time now. Can't seem to find them.

In less than two weeks time I'll be in Paris. I do have some time on my hands.

Does anyone have some suggestions which shop to visit for Pre-owned Cartier pens ?

Thx Brahe

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
