Review Of New Noodler's Polar Green

Here is a brief review of Noodler's Polar Green

fixing link, sorry...this is now a funny story behind having posted a link to FPH listing of a pen I was talking to Rita about in PM's. When I woke up at 2pm today, I wondered why my Lamy pen and new bottle of Noodler's Polar Green was out, as I had absolutely no memory of using it last night, or sending PM's to Rita. The pen was uncapped (now dried out--in need of of some water to loosen its tongue), and the bottle still sitting open. Then I remembered having taken an Ambien because I couldn't sleep at around 3:30am. I just looked in my scanner, and there sat this "Quick Review" I have no memory of having written. My scanner was turned off, and I never even uploaded it to my Photobucket Account. I have no memory today of any of this, but reviewing my PM messages to Rita, which I think I did first explains why I had a link to this new pen I got. Then I apparently came over here to make this post, and using the same Taccia pen link I had shown to her. I had not used the Ambien for a while, and it's kind of scary if you don't go right to bed, you do things that you don't do normally, and then have absolutely no memory of the next day. The good news is I think I slept from 5am until 2pm, and now feel well rested! :cloud9:

That is a post linking to a store. Reported.

Edit: But I'm sure it's just the wrong URL too. :)

This is an example of what Ambien can do. That ink looks kind of pasty today. I wonder if it dried out and becomes lighter?

I just dunked the bottom third of the page and it is 100% waterproof. Usually some amount of ink washes off, but still leaving you with a good permanent bonding. With this ink, there was zero ink affected by the water, not even from the big splotch.

To me it kinda looks like Legal Lapis.

Darn, I can no longer edit my first post to add this "Real" review to supplement my Hunter S. Thompson trist. Well, I'll just add this at the end. Having a thicker nib turns this into a 'manly green' !!!

I added the Legal Lapis at the bottom which is more of a blue-black with a tinge of green.

Thanks, for the review. I really like green to green/blue inks, though I'm not liking this particular shade. My favorite green inks are Diamine Sherwood and a similarly dark green, Noodler's Forest. I also like my vintage Sheaffer's Emerald Green, which is a true, bright green, the shade of summer grass or a lime popsicle.

Ambien is a hell of a drug. I have seen some crazy things, and done lots of things I don't remember all in the name of getting a good night's sleep. That said, I think I like your new format!

I know it's been several years since anyone has commented on this review - thanks for it BTW - but I'm hoping a few others have tried Polar Green since then.

I just received a sample from Goulet Pens and had time to test it out over the weekend. I really like the color but it feathers badly on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I have - Rhodia, HP 32# inkjet, normal copy paper, moleskine, etc. I would LOVE this ink if it weren't for all the feathering....Anyone else having the same issue?

Fine, but is it freeze-proof? - that's what Polar implies to me or am I showing the limitation of my knowledge?

My Polar Brown is the same way (mixing in some regular Black seemed to help), so I think it's the Polar formulation that causes all the feathering.

The Polar inks are designed to resist low temperatures (added antifreeze, basically), and people have used them effectively down to around freezing. I think there was someone in one of the threads talking about shipping inks in winter who mentioned that their bottle of Polar ink had started to solidify at some extremely low temp but was fine above that?

Thanks for the info (I only used B&W film and learned to process that).   Boy -- the stuff I learn here!  Just continually astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge in this community! Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

It just wasn't likely to have been Kodachrome.  It would have been the films I referred to as "other color films." (Kodachrome is not a generic term for color film. It is a specific film that produces transparencies, or slides, by a process not used for any other film. There are other color trans

@Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
