Esterbrook in Canada

What does double jeweled SJ mean? How does one know if it's double jeweled or not? My pens don't have the "R" anywhere.

Never mind, I figured out double jewel.

Where was the factory in Canada?

Almost all of the very earliest of Esterbrook advertising indicates Brown Bros. Ltd. Toronto Canada as one of the places their pens are available. This goes even as far back as the first V clips. Yet, after all this time, I have never ever seen a Canadian made pen earlier than a standard J model pen. Does anyone have a Canadian made pen other than a double jewel model J?

Best-

Brian

I've just recently begun to collect Esterbrooks, in December adding two Canadian double jewels, a copper/brown J, plus a grey SJ. I bought them from two separate Ontario restorers, so I know there are more Canadian Esties in various configurations out in the local wilds, hiding in plain sight.

As for the location of Canadian Esterbrook, according to OpendataCanada http://opendatacanada.com/corporation.php?id=424285 the last reported office of the Esterbrook Pen Company of Canada Limited was at the Toronto-Dominion Centre, P.O. Box 51, Toronto, ON, M5K 1G1. Significant corporate dates posted: Incorporation date 1948-06-09; Dissolution date 1977-03-04 and the last (?) Financial Statement was on 1999-03-07.

Therefore I'm assuming the earliest Canadian date for Estie pen production is 1948 and the latest 1977 or prior. Can anyone verify that with documentation? Does anyone know the address of the Ontario factory?

Esterbrook included Toronto in its extensive international manufacturing and distribution web.

The barrel imprint identifies my Esterbrook L double jewel grey as Canadian.

I have a 1933 (I think, it isn't in front of me right now) ad from the Gregg Writer showing a V Clip pen and mentioning offices in Toronto, I have seen references to Canadian manufacture before 1948 in ads for sure.

If you are having fun looking for Esterbrook variants, look for a double jeweled SJ or J mode without the R (Registered symbol) after the word Esterbrook.

I have what I believe to be an LJ made in Canada without the ®
