Great review...once you start writing with this pen you will find a 'regular' pen so 'irregular'.

Wow, writing with this kind of pen is truly an experience.

I'm honored to be one of the few lucky that could use it. Really!

Dear friend,

eh eh eh, "she's" not so heavy, when you write you just forget hers dimension but you go trough a black hole in the sky in a place without thought.

Dear friend,

you are right, also if I think a little bit different.

Drive this kind of pen is another way to discover in the fountian pen world.

The other pen are ... different.

I could not use it when I am around for exemple.

I carry with me my best Nakaya or the 149, not this piece of art.

This is on my desk, always ready to write.

Turn the tail and go!

Yikes... I didn't realize it until I looked around a little. MSRP is $1500?? I'd probably opt for a Nakaya instead. Although, if money wasn't an object, I'd probably get the Namiki. It is such an impressive looking pen. smile.gif

I tried to buy it many time in the past.

For many years ...

Last December a friend of mine accepted my proposal and I bought it.

The price of this pen is not high, believe me.

This is a concentrate of technical details and exceptional work never seen before.

I become also happy by your emotion. The red color of urushi is so traditional in Japan that I have little interest

in the color. But now I have been attracted by the color. Thank you for your nice review.

A really nice review. I like this pen and although I do not own it, I do have the Yukari Royale, its smaller brother. In some ways this giant pen is more of a symbol representing the classic Japanese urushi eyedropper than it is an actual pen...I think this may not make sense but its kind of like when something becomes more than the sum of its parts.

There are many wonderful design aspects to this great pen and you've found two of them: (1) you have the earlier text on nib design that is classic and elegant. The new nibs have the Mount Fuji motif; and (2) the feed is very beautiful with its color coordinated finish. The only other pen I can recall with this similar color coordination of the feed was the Cardinal Waterman 58. Besides all of this your pen has a soul of hard rubber.

Thanks for sharing a special pen.

The heavy price tag is the reason why I could never buy this pen. Maybe some day, thanks for sharing the great review.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

This red colour puts me in mind of temples that I saw in Japan. Very nice.

"how do I know what I think until I write it down?"

I realize that this thread has grown a bit old, but I am compelled to ask: How does this pen write? It looks absolutely gorgeous and is a giant, but if one buys it not merely as a work of art but something with which to write, it would be great to hear about the experience of using it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
