Let me add my thanks too. I know what it's like to do a job for free that people frequently take for granted. So I thank again the Admins and mods who appear to have saved FPN from a big disaster.

The "database error" page just returned for me, for about a minute or two, preventing me from accessing posts and even the index page itself. All seems back to normal now, however. I am hoping that was temporary, so the admins and mods can spend their weekend recovering from their heroic efforts earlier this week.

I've been on a quest to see if I could commit all Seven Deadly Sins in a single day. Finally, it dawned on me I shouldn't try for the One Day Wonder Prize for all seven in one day. It's simply out of any question as you can't commit decent sloth while busily ticking the other six off your crowded "to do" list. -- ViolinWriter

Yes, it only was a maintenance thing, lasted only a few minutes, please see my message on this I posted a few minutes ago :D.

I just had the error pages pop up for me about 5 minutes ago. Is this also a part of scheduled maintenance?

Nope, it isn't.

I'll investigate.

It appears there was a second maintenance window after all, and indeed it looks like that was the cause of the problems you encountered.

Phew! Wiping sweat from brow... :D

I am very glad to hear that. Thanks for the update!

Wim-7 AM US eastern standard time driver errors, no access.. too until 7:18 to enter FPN via partially broken link..it allowed me to go to the main link then open this page. hopefully post this..

IF it's similar to the original event, would be allowed one post in one location, before I hit the error notice again..let's see

edited to add, was able to check my profile, old posts, and a couple of new entries.. so must have been temporary glitch..

seems like you are gauging unusual error events?

off to work!

We just did some maintenance, and expect to have solved the problems as a result.

It's a conspiracy, perpetuated by "the man," to keep FPN down... :ninja:

Yes, I have that too!

When I try to post, I have that database error. However, when I look at the thread where I tried to post, the post is there. Weird, but tolerable...

This morning was fine but I've received the database errors messages 3 times tonight. Hope it is restored soon.

Please note that you may experience this "Driver Error" database related message from time to time, even when we are not performing maintenance. There is a "click here" link to "refresh" in an attempt to clear it, and most of the time it works on the first try.

Maintenance is being performed at a much more frequent rate than before to combat the appearance of these messages, which are not really errors but "database timeouts". We are working with our software vendor to resolve this problem and feel confident we will eventually. The good thing is that it is contained now, so that the errors do eventually disappear for much longer periods.

We thank you very much for your patience in this matter!

Sincerely,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
