Pay it Forward 2009

I got my Preppy eyedropper from kookychick & wanted to share how beautiful it is with Diamine Damson in it... this is a great pen! It's my first eyedropper so I was nervous about ink spilling out all over the place but so far not a single drop has escaped, although spousette is referring to it as "the scary pen" anyway

Thank you kookychick!!!

I have a barely used bottle of Noodlers Polar Blue up for the taking. It bleeds on most of the paper I use...so I just don't really have a place for it. I would appreciate the recipient covering the cost of shipping. I would also greatly appreciate tips on shipping the ink as I have never done so before.

Thanks! Please PM replies.

Plants went out yesterday.

Plants & seeds

It's the time of the year to close up the greenhouse and bring in the house plants. They grow like crazy over the summer and I end up with too many to take in. Here's what I have available, if anyone would like some.

Morning glory seeds. Mostly shades of purple, ranging from almost a red to lavender. Possibly blue or white. I don't guarantee color because I mixed up the seeds.

Also, tiny little plantlets of Mother of Thousands, Bryophyllum or Kalanchoe (depending on where you look) daigremontianum. Very easy to grow. Fast growing. Can be invasive in warmer climates.

I might also be able to send a cutting of wandering jew, Tradescantia zebrina, if anyone is interested.

When I paid to enter the NYC pen show, I received a $10 gift card off a $50 purchase from the Fountain Pen Hospital. I probably will not be using it, so if you'd like the card, PM me and it's yours.

This is a really good book by Eric Temple Bell. You can get quite an education about how the human species got its mathematics together up to to almost the middle of the 20th Century. And there is one woman mathematician biographied in the book too.

An update ought to be done, which would include a lot more female mathematicians.

For those who would like a more populous, on-line set of biographies of mathematicians look here.

Since it's still Halloween here in California (I really did mean to get this up earlier!), I have an Edgar Allan Poe Manuscript Journal by Paperblanks to send to some lucky person... hmmm... criteria...

YOU write a very (very, very) SHORT mini-essay: "An Edgar Allan Poe story that would make a great movie is __________, because __________. It should star __________ as __________."

All PM (get it?) submissions recieved before midnight California time (and I will figure out the DST thing, I promise) will be reviewed. The purely subjective winner will get the journal and their essay published here!

Gone in 1 minute!

What I have to offer is not that beautiful, but hopefully useful to someone here.

When I bought an Oberon Design journal cover to house my Kindle, it came with- big surprise- a journal. This black hardbound journal measures 8.5 x 5.5" and has unlined pages. Oberon Design says "Our bound inserts are smythe sewn using heavy bond paper."

Anybody need it? CONUS only, please, due to shipping costs.

The winning entry:

"An Edgar Allan Poe story that would make a great movie is 'King Pest', because it's your classic tale of ghouls and ghosts set in plague-ridden London, with a little comic relief thrown in; perfect Hollywood fodder. It should star Uma Thurman as The Arch Duchess Ana-Pest."

Thank you kindly, Loren. I'm looking forward to filling it up with tales of horror and suspense (ie. my daily journal).

Btw, a few years ago I drew an adaption of King Pest for an excellent series of books called Graphic Classics (illustrated classic authors). Here's the title page:

If you are interested in reading the rest, just go to: http://www.antonemdin.com/images/portfolio/king_pest_01.jpg and change the number at the end sequentially until you hit 17. Sorry it has no navigation.

Thanks again to Loren, and FPN!

Cheers,

Anton

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
