"La Reine Bleu"

Recommended Posts

Three Noodler's inks just arrived from Swisher Pens. Two of them, La Reine Mauve and standard Blue, I plan to use primarily for mixing, although each is attractive in its own right. (The third was Bad Belted Kingfisher -- initial impressions here.)

Here is a swatch-comparison of LRM and Blue individually, and in a 2:1 mix (2 parts Blue, 1 part LRM). Although I haven't tried it in a pen yet, I count it a success: a pleasing royal blue with a bulletproof component.

La Reine Bleu, anyone? :happyberet:

I like it! Might have to give this a shot soon, too!

Thanks. Noodler's Blue is actually a very nice color on its own. Medium flow, little or no feathering, good drying time.

La Reine Mauve has replaced Purple Wampum as my favorite purple. More feather-resistant than PW, and it's bulletproof.

HNY!

"How water resistant is that mix ?" John P. asked in another forum.

Well, judge for yourself. Here's a writing sample, before...

... and after a 1-minute soak under a running tap:

Not bad, eh?

Nice comparison, thanks.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

Just want to point out that the "La Reine Bleu" mix is 2 parts Blue and 1 part La Reine Mauve (not the other way around).

Actually, you can get by with less LRM; a Blue:LRM ratio of 5:1 or 6:1 works nicely.

Glad you clarified that. I thought the other way around from earlier post. Wonderful discovery. Thanks!

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Would this be particularly different if you used eel blue? Just wondering as it would save buying two new inks (oh hardship).

Eel Blue would work just fine. I used it in my "Mystery Blue" mix, which uses Violet Vote (formerly known as Iraqi Indigo) rather than La Reine Mauve.

where are the picture?

It's been about 13 months since the original post... The server/host that the OP used seems to be long gone. Other times, they delete/move images without thinking (e.g. on Flickr).

In a lot of ways, it makes sense to use attachments rather than outside links for this reason... it's a bummer to click on a thread only to find the images are long since gone.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
