149 with Triangle Cap

Multiechelon

Recommended Posts

This afternoon, when I got home, I saw that Christmas had arrived early:

I bought this from FPN member egretsrus last week. It was wonderfully packaged for safe transport. From the side, it looks like any other 149:

But the triangle on the cap is unique:

The sides of the triangle are a hair over 3/16" long:

And the nib is a standard-looking F nib (GP, look away from these last two pictures):

I have loaded it up with J. Herbin's Bleu Myosotis. The pen writes great.

Thanks Sean for the pictures. Is this a MB or it's something frankenised?

Odd how some cultures find certain symbols so bothersome (or some stronger word)... I've always found it odd that a German company did not interpret the symbol similarly... hmmm...

nice pen

Bluntly (which I was trying to avoid)... the "Arab" or Middle-Eastern market sees the symbol as reminiscent of the Jewish Star of David... apparently, the Germans did not.

Another example is the Hindu (?) version of a swastika I saw in SE Asia a couple of years ago... freaked me out until it was explained to me!

(the FPN spell checker isn't)

Resembles the star of david if you, umm, squint really hard and look at it in dim lighting whilst underwater? :ninja: I always find it strange how hung up people get on certain symbols, but thats' perhaps a topic for another thread!

Cool pen!

Thanks, Sean, for posting these very impressive photos. I've read about these pens being available in the Gulf states, but have never seen one. Lambrou mentions them in his section on Montblanc. Thanks again very much for adding to our knowledge of fountain pen history.

Thanks Sean

Great pictures. I liked the order of the pictures - first the box, then side view, then the big reveal - the triangle cap!

Does anyone know if these pens are special order, or stock in the middle east boutiques? Would be interesting to have one in the collection.

Sean beat me to this pen. I was looking for a match to the 146 I have with a triangle on the dome, but missed the offer by an hour or so. Being in the mountain time zone, I'm always a little behind times.

Period of production of these pens were mid-late 70s judging by the one-piece barrel and other normally identifying characteristics. I've no idea of the total span or quantity of production, but they are unusual enough that I theorize/suspect only few pens with this dome were made.

A very nice specimen.

Then this pen has an interesting travel history.

Did it come with any? Who was the original owner? He did he/she live or visit Saudi Arabia?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
