Raden - but I can't vote for it since it's not listed.

Always gets oohs and ahhs from those that see it.

I can't vote for mine, either. The LE Orange--just a striking appearance.

I voted earlier for the black kasuri ( carbonesque) as that was the only VP I had at the time. Since then I've bought a early 80's VP ( in as new condition) in matte black and matte silver, it's the round version made of steel and aluminum with the stealth type clip. It really is a timeless design and I have to vote for it as my favorite ( if it was an option)

BTW, how do I date my pen? Is there some sort of production mark on the pen, and if so were do I find it?

Kind regards,

Karl

Slate Grey is my favourite at the moment but to be honest I like anything with rhodium trim. The most important thing to me is a Binder Italic nib.

Can't remember what I voted for but it was either green or black which are my favourite pen colours. Anyway I bought a black VP with rhodium trim and it looks reet grand in my hand.

I voted black. I have 3 VPs and none of them are black though. I have a red/gold a green/gold and a slate grey/rhodium. I have half a dozen nibs now through purchases and a gift. Best nib is the Binder 0.8 stub.

I was recently offered a black/rhodium one but turned it down. Good price too! I have decided that it has to be either an orange VP or a stealth and no more!

Can I change my mind, I voted for a Black Carbonesque originally, but I have just got a Blue Carbonesque and whist I still think that the black is very classy, the blue is even better imho.

I went for the grey - a beautiful pen. Really not that fond of the raden finishes funnily enough. I much prefer the plainer styles without gold trim.

I am curious about the carbonesque finish. I have been reading that it has some texture. Does anyone know how it is applied? I am worried that if it is painted on the outside that it will rub off if I keep it in my bag and walk around with it too much. Has anyone had any of the carbonesque finish rub off of theirs?

I have a blue carbonesque. The texture is under a glossy finish. I don't think it will wear off very soon unless you wear of the finish first. I don't see that happen very fast. By the way...i always have my pens in my shirt pocket of in a pencase when i travel. I would't drop my FP in a bag without a pencase.

Thanks, that pretty much addresses my concern. Well, I didn't mean I would just "drop it in a bag." It is a messenger bag with pen slots in it. I don't think I could keep it in a pen case while keeping the nib pointing up as I have read that one should. Would it be better for it not to have the best protection (i.e. pen slot in a messenger bag) or for it to have better protection but probably end up horizontal (i.e. loose pen case in the messenger bag).

My pens always seem to slip out of the pen slots. I have a pencase that fits nicely in one of the pockets of my bag. Good protection and vertical. But it depends on your bag.

Did someone say "Raden"?

After getting over my fear of introducing "usage signs" on mine, I bought a Binder 0.6mm stub nib and started putting it to use. It's practically the only VP I use now. I figured life is short--I'd like to look at that gorgeous urushi lacquered abalone shell design as much as I can until my eyesight is gone. ;)

I just ordered my Raden the other day. I couldn't justify the cost, so I was going to go with one of the carboneques, but then I happened upon an excellent sale price that was about 80$ cheaper than any other price I had seen (well under even Binder's price for a Raden body without the nib assembly). Don't ask though, I ordered it during the evening and the sale was over by the next morning. This is going to be my first and only fountain pen for a good while; I figured I should go with something really interesting.

Why does this topic keep appearing at the top of the forum when the last reply was sent 2 weeks ago? A bug methinks? Am I the only one seeing this?

No, not the only one. I think what is happening is someone has voted in the poll, but did not post a followup to their vote. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
