Speaking of Glashütte...

From November 25 to November 28, WatchTime will open the guarded manufacture gates for you: join us for a unique opportunity to meet the brands, their watchmakers, enjoy in-depth conversations with WatchTime's staff and experience Glashütte like no one else.

We will visit A. Lange & Söhne, Tutima, Glashütte Original and Nomos. See how watchmakers assemble new movements, how watch designs are being planned, go to watchmaking workshops and engage in live sessions where you will become a watchmaker yourself. We will learn more about how the Wempe Observatory tests chronometers and finish the Glashütte tour with a visit of the "Dresdner Striezelmarkt," the oldest Christmas Market of Germany with a tradition of 580 years.

On November 29 we will fly from Dresden to Geneva where we will continue our trip to the Vallée de Joux. There we will experience the Vallée from up close. We will visit Vacheron Constantin, Zenith, Blancpain and Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Short practical exercises will help you to understand better how difficult a watchmaker's job really is. Get access to facilities that only a few other collectors have ever seen. (subject to modifications)

The total price for 1 person is $ 6,900. WatchTime subscribers get a 10% discount. Minimum of 12 attendees required.

For booking requests and custom-made tour packages as well as for flights please contact the

What a wonderful thread. In fact I have got more watches than pens, so here are some pictures (mind you, I am very bad at taking pictures):

Montblanc Starwalker electric blue with Nomos Zürich blaugold

And if you use a flash, you can see why these two objects belong together and were "made" for each other:

But this watch looks best if it's out and about:

The last two pictures I am going to post here are of the Montblanc Brahms with a Nomos Ludwig and two vintage watches, a Eterna Centenaire and an Omega Genève:

Drooling... I'd love to have a Laco or two and have tried bidding on a couple of Junghans. The Xens are beautiful, but I don't think that I've heard of them much before.

Thank you for all of those pics, and some captions.

Thank you very much for your kind comment. Well, I have got many watches but not all of them were very expensive (like the vintage watches that I find at flee markets or in antique stores; I guess that people nowadays don't want to wear 33mm watches, a perfectly good size for gentlemen 30-50 years ago, anymore).

There is a good online store for vintage watches where I got the Lacos from: vintagetick.de. Every first Sunday of the month "new" watches are added and often there are nice watches by Junghans, Laco and brands that do not exist anymore to be found at reasonable prices.

The Xen automatic watches aren't produced anymore as the brand wasn't very successful at selling them. They used old stock Swiss movements, like Adolph Schild movements, for their automatic range and they were quite expensive (689 for the three-hand watch up to 2,200 ). As they didn't sell very well, they were sold off on Amazon with a 75% or more discount and the collector in me couldn't resist. Some watches were as expensive as the movements that were used if you wanted to get them on their own. Sadly they are too big for me 40-44mm, but the design is very modern and clean. Right now they are only selling quartz watches.

More information on their automatic watches:

Ahhhh... Being in Germany gives you some definite advantages for many of those watches. Plus you can understand those websites (which don't translate well).

And, ues, those 30mm ish watches from the 60's are sweet in their own way. Although there are

some that come very close to being women's watches -- e.g. I picked up a Juvenia that was listed as 32mm, but was barely 30mm. That little difference (ok, and the band) make it seem a bit more of a woman's watch than a man's watch.

As I said, the Xen's are very nice. Seem a bit pricier than GUB's on ebay.

If you see a non-expensive watch that you'd like but don't want, just let me know... please.

@Serlo: Great collection! They all look great, and that Nomos Zürich blaugold is stunning!

@JuGo: it's always nice to see a fellow Genta design admirer. Not to mention really nice pics as well ;) .

Since this seems to be the place where the watch enthusiasts gather, here are 2 pics with one of the latest Montblanc watches, one truly spectacular:

Agree! Great step forward for them, even if the price is a little too high in my view. And it's always nice to see a beautiful movement brought back to life.

Some beautiful watches and lovely photography.

I particularly like the IWC ones, and wouldn't mind having a Portugieser with the 7 day power reserve and blue or black face.

Thanks for the effort.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
