Hi all

I recently acquired this pen but I was wondering does it have a model name?

Length is 117mm capped and 137mm posted, O.D of cap is about 14mm at widest point.

It looks like a Parker vac from the thirties. I've never seen one from France. It's a nice looking pen and a great nib. I'm guessing but it looks like it could be somewhat rare and worth learning more about. Wish I could be more helpful but I've not seen exactly that model.

Hi Paul

I'd call it a Duofold. Looks like the English NS model from the '40s although rather a small one. A really unique find I would think, would have had to have an 18ct nib as most European countries don't consider 14ct as "real" gold. I haven't come accross one like that before. Apparently Parker had a factory in the north of France that also made the more modern but rather difficult to find "35", a pen similiar to the "75".

Hello,

This is a french-made Parker pen. Those have been produced under the Parker and Plexor brands. There are three sizes, yours appear to be the medium one. These pens were produced with 14k gold, 18k gold, and steel nibs depending on the year of manufacture. There are one, two, and three band caps.

Other french-made parkers include Plexor striped vacumatics, Parker VS with specific cap clip, and the much sought after DJ P51 with short blind cap.

All the best,

Antonio

I have no idea what it is but that is beautiful material!

Congratulations.

Thanks Glenn

This pen is a little outside my collecting spectrum.

However, it looked so nice I had to have it.

I guess I will be keeping it for a while

By coincidence I found a black one of these at a market (in the UK) this morning. Its a sweet little thing that feels like it should be called a New Style Lady Duofold - although of course it's not. Like you, not really what i collect, but fits in nicely with what I accumulate (i.e. any vintage pen) so I shall be keeping mine also. I might post a picture when I have cleaned it up a little.

What is your basis for this conclusion?

I like the button filler, and coupled with the NS duo style in that plastic - something I'm going to look for now ;-)

For a start it's not a vacumatic!! It's a rather standard button filler, similiar to Parker Duofolds from the '20s and found on a lot of pens as an alternative to a lever filler. Secondly Parker have a manufacturing facility in France, having made among others the rather rare Parker 35 as well as the 61, VS and 51 as mentioned in earlier posts, and these. Thirdly this a rather standard Parker design ( for the what of a better description, NS Duofold style )and as most European countries don't consider anything less than 18ct as gold, the nib is 18ct. You will find a number of American made pens with 18ct nibs ( I have an Eversharp Doric with an 18ct adjustable nib), these where all destined for export to Europe etc.

Bottom line...it's genuine...and a nice find

Hugh

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
