Since I updated my computer, my scanner doesn't like to cooperate. So, I've taken photographs of all of my inks instead. The color isn't quite right on some of them. I'll have to take new pictures when it's a sunnier day. The focus is a bit off sometimes, also. I've added a pure white background so you might be able to judge your color calibration. How? I'm not sure, but it seemed like a good idea...

Blacks:

Mont Blanc Black - the ink actually has more of a red undertone than the image shows

Noodler's Heart of Darkness

Noodler's Boston Brahmin Black (NE Pen Show 2009)

Noodler's Bulletproof Black

Sailor Jentle Grey

Speedball Superblack India Ink

Greens:

Mont Blanc British Racing Green - not quite that dark, really

Noodler's Zhivago - also not as dark. In pens it is sometimes nearly black, but the swatch shows a color a little darker than MB British Racing Green intermixed with distinctly black overtones

Mont Blanc Season's Greetings 2008 White Forest - it's a little more like a spruce tree than the image

Noodler's (American Eel) Gruene Cactus/Green Cactus/Grüne Cactus - a little more like that plastic Easter "grass"

Blues 1:

Namiki/Pilot Blue

Waterman Florida Blue

J. Herbin Éclat De Saphir

Private Reserve Midnight Blues - a bit more of a purple/violet cast than is shown

Private Reserve Black Magic Blue

J. Herbin Bleu Nuit

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_UMP2h77cAk0/SuScryCiAOI/AAAAAAAAHPU/QwKJPcjw7Tw/s512/Blues%201.jpg

Blues 2:

Lamy Blue-Black (Dokument/Iron Gall ink)

Noodler's Navaho Turquoise - it "pops" a little more and is more a Carribean Ocean color than the image shows, but not quite as light

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_UMP2h77cAk0/SuScqAqYhYI/AAAAAAAAHPM/iVN91_Z_b0U/s720/Blues%202.jpg

Purples:

J. Herbin Poussiére De Lune - a bit more purple than the reddish that it looks, though the red undertones are there

Waterman Purple - a bit more violet than the periwinkle color shown

Noodler's Bay State Concord Grape - hm... think Welch's Concord Grape juice and make the color look more like that. The blue tones simply aren't visible in reality

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_UMP2h77cAk0/SuScqod4X9I/AAAAAAAAHPQ/swzDGwFKDl4/s720/purples.jpg

Reds:

Noodler's Burgundy

Noodler's Shah's Rose - not quite as "bubblegum" and more magenta/pink

Sheaffer Skrip Red (New, Slovenia)

Windsor & Newton Crimson ("Calligraphy" ink. I wouldn't put it in a fountain pen)

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_UMP2h77cAk0/SuScp3hn23I/AAAAAAAAHPI/QSC4OakdUZE/s512/Reds.jpg

Browns:

Noodler's Majiro Nakahama Whaleman's Sepia - I have yet to be able to capture this ink (scanner, picture) so that it looks accurate. This is close, but the red hues are more subdued and the brown is flatter

Noodler's Standard Brown - a touch less "chestnutty"

Abraxas Marroni (Chestnut)

Waterman Havana Brown

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_UMP2h77cAk0/SuScpFjbbaI/AAAAAAAAHPE/FsZ3DelJHOY/s512/browns.jpg

Yellow(s):

Noodler's Yellow - I color corrected this because it's very bright and the image showed more contrast than is really there. It's like the color of a dandelion before you pick it and it turns more marigold as it dies.

this is my first learning about noodler's boston brahmin black. i like that grayish tone. was it ever part of noddler's regular production? or was it only available at the pen show?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
