Looking good Speedy - this should be a winner.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks of this as the "Twisbi"? I suppose I naturally make any set of initials pronounceable without thinking about it.

Is the pen to be called a TWSBI or will there be a Western model name when on sale in eg, Europe and the States?.

Good luck with the project.

TWSBI should actualy are combined by two words

TWS, I will pronounce it as TWIST

BI, "I" pronounce as "I"taly, "I"nternational. BI sound in Chinese meaning pen.

TWS has three meaning

1. twist mechanism, twist action. We produce many pens with twist action (like our three function pen...)

2. TW is the shorthand of Taiwan, TWS meaning pen from Taiwan.

3. Our Chinese company name is SanWenTang, SWT =>TWS

How's that? I like it a lot. It took me months trying to come out a brand name, more than 100 names I tried to use but without success, due to similarity..... One morning I woke up, the idea of twsbi came across, then within 10 minutes it is done. You never know what will you have today, isn't it?

  • 3 weeks later...

The Schmidt gold nib is too expensive to use at the moment, so we took the SS nib to be plated by Titanium. it came back with two colors, one Titanium black and the other one Titanium gold. Both colors looks pretty nice. Of course, these plated nibs do not have the soft flexiable feeling as real gold nibs.

Hi,

This is great. It looks like you will be ready to ship these soon.

Are there other issues to resolve before they go on sale?

What is your target date?

Regards,

JRD

Nice, I think the Titanium black looks really nice. I'm so ready to place an order; this already has dollars allocated in my pen buying budget.

Any idea when these should be available, and what sort of price?

Perhaps FPN members could get a special rate ;)

This is a truly remarkable project. I can't wait to see the actual pens in production.

We basically resolved all the issue and potential issue. Now we will make a small batch run of around 300 pens to double check everything is all right, then get into mass production of about 5,000 pens total. in the mean time we have to get the packaging box ready, and the instruciton book.... Pls give us a little bit more time. We are sure you will be happy when you receive the pen.

I'm sorry if you've already answered this question earlier in the thread, but what will the price point of this pen be in the UK, approximately? They look really good!

Also, have you thought about marketing the pens with both types of nib and setting a higher price for the gold nib?

the gold nib you are seeing is not real gold, but titanium gold plating, just for the color purpose. the cost is a little bit higher then the original stainless steel version. I intend to start with just ss / chrome plated metal parts version first, after we finish the first lot of around 5,000 pen then we will consider other colors version.

The price in UK: my idea price for country other than Taiwan is 10% over Taiwan price, due to extra cost of shipping.... but if I can really achieve this goal, still have to check with my freind in Germany, who may stocking for me in Europe. We are still working on this issue.

By the way, the price in Taiwan will be NT$1,100, roughly US$35

Excellent prices! I suspect they may climb as you'll have other overheads when exporting, but even so you should be competitive.

I just got this price from my pen guy in Daan, Taipei. He said he's expecting in the next week or two and will call me. I can't wait to post a review, I think you'll have a hard time keeping these in stock hehe.

If you export from Taiwan, you get a rebate off of the VAT taxes paid IIRC, which should subsidize the price of exporting a bit

I will have some family in Taiwan until March 26th, what are the chances of them picking one up for me by then?

This store in Daan should have the pen available soon for 1000NT (31 USD). Your family should be able to get a VAT refund upon leaving for it.

Still wondering when "soon" is. Luckily I have a friend in Taiwan that will ship to me at-cost, but still...I want to get my hands on this beauty.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
