It's like Diamine Orange, though, not merely an orange-y ink.

So I bought this ink. Now I can't figure out what to use it for. What type of correspondence is appropriate for orange ink?

yes you can use orange for everything except business correspondence. Do you write letters? Take notes? Write lists? You can use orange for all those things! I saw this ink at the MB store the other day. It is gorgeous but I think I have enough orange ink already.

OK I need this ink. :bunny01:

Might take a bit of legwork. The boutiques near me would only sell it with the purchase of the LE pen. Got the same response from the CS people at the Montblanc Refills site.

Ultimately, I had to advertise in the WTB forum and get a kind member to purchase a bottle at their local boutique, where the rules were not so strict, and have them ship it to me.

OK, I'll stick with Noodler's. Thanks.

Oddly, this ink dries for me incredibly quickly, but I have used it in limited amounts on Rhodia paper. On Canteo and Clairfontaine sketch paper it was fast in a matter of seconds. Yet the colour is vibrant, probably a little closer to the Iroshizuku Fuyu Gaki (Persimmon).

Orange ink is for everything, especially grading! Doesn't carry the angry connotations of red, but gives that "orange alert" sensation.

I have never been remotely tempted by an orange ink before, but now I want this! Like, really want this.

I've got to stop reading ink reviews.

Yeah I've seen people saying that on here. I went to my MB store this past weekend to see if they had any violet. After asking where the Gandhi pen was in the display so I could look at it, she asked me if I knew about the ink and if I wanted to see (read: buy) some of it. Well, I'm a sucker and bought. It's a fun ink. Very bright. Think Rhodia orange but a little softer/less concentrated. I like it so far. I've just used it briefly for marking up article margins that I'm reading -- so only a few checks, bars, and x marks.

it and the orange safari are a pretty good match, I think

I had no problem getting it at the MB Boutique on 57th Street in Manhattan. Sales people were very gracious even though all I was buying was a single bottle of ink.

I would check with your local MontBlanc boutique. Many are happy to sell you the ink without the purchase of the pen.

I'm sort of nuts about orange inks, so I like all sorts of oranges, and I like this a LOT.

That being said, it is *quite* close to Diamine Blaze Orange and Herbin Orange Indien. And those two are well behaved like this is. Soooo... I would say, if you think it's pretty and want the novelty of getting the Gandhi ink, or if you're as nuts about subtly different shades of orange ink as I am, or if you only want to use MB ink in your MB pens and are missing having an orange option, then by all means, give it a try, it's a great ink. But, I don't think this is quite something that should induce wailing and gnashing of teeth if you really can't get it - there are some very close non-limited inks out there.

That being said, I like this one the best and have several bottles now. :D

BTW, I forgot to mention. This ink was $13 a bottle (vs. $12 for the regular ones).

Hi Kushbaby,

What do you use orange ink for? I really like this ink (thanks for the review!), but already have a few orange inks, that I'm having trouble using up!

Soki

Just about everything except professional correspondence. I have it in the 149 that's in a desk stand on my desk, and I use it all the time for notes, journal writing, lists, etc. (things for which I can use any color I want).

I actually use a lot of orange ink. Weird, huh?

I just tried it out for the first time in a Bexley 56 with a stub nib. The stuff really look neat and has great flow! The stub nib gives character to the ink.

Nope, not weird. I love pink/plum inks, even though they're not very practical either. Thanks for the prompt reply!

I figure, if you gotta write something down, why not enjoy it as much as possible? Orange makes me happy.

  • 1 month later...

Thanks for the review. Today I stopped into a MB boutique looking for more Racing Green and saw they had Gandhi ink. Looked very cool in the bottle. I think I'll try it in my orange Edison LE piston-filler, of course.

It looks to me like an ink that could be used for highlighting or editing.

Bill

Whoa, wait a minute. I just realized that this ink is crying out to show off in a clear demonstrator!!

Oh, DOOD!!!! you are so cool for suggesting that.

::::runs into the guest bathroom ink room to fill a Sailor brush pen with MB Gandhi ink::::

Excellent! I just tried it in a textbook - works great as a highlighter! This will make my review of basic neuropathology for teaching MUCH more enjoyable...

You are now on my Cool List for suggesting this.

Already there - I have it in a Pelikan M205 clear demo (and it's gorgeous). I thought about putting it in my Stipula Suprema Nuda with a fat B stubbed nib, but the Diamine Jade Green won by a nose... for now... (mostly because I have a 149 BB that's perpetually inked with the stuff).

But you're still on my Cool List! :bunny01:

Kushbaby,

I was just cleaning out my pen and ink file (yes I have a file, you know you do too!) and I came across a note you wrote with Ghandi Ink... Good Lord I almost needed sunglasses to read it. Hehe :vbg:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
