@skrutt: ditto - I'm in Australia. Will people still want to swap ink with me? ;)

Also, I'm a bit unclear on the procedure for obtaining vials - I'm sure it's written somewhere in this thread, but it's 26 pages long. TL, DR. :) Do we just email Dillon and then throw money at him, or what? (The vials look useful in general, for securely carrying travel-sized portions of ink... can you get them anywhere else? I don't want to tax Dillon's resources for my own personal gain.)

Now, inks I have to trade:

Parker: Blue, Blue-Black, Black. Ho, hum.

Diamine: Umber, Imperial Blue (a.k.a. WES Imperial Blue), Blaze Orange, Monaco Red. (I'm particularly unlikely to ever get through an entire bottle of blaze orange, nor imperial blue. Umber and Monaco red are yummy.)

Lamy: Blue-Black, Red (more of a pink...)

Pelikan 4001: Black, Brown, Green, Violet, Turquoise. (I actually have two entire bottles of Brilliant Brown. Samples for everyone!)

Inks I want:

Noodler's Tiannamen and Baystate Blue.

A nice, subtle sepia.

Also after a slightly more understated turquoise than Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Turquoise, which is a bit too brilliant.

Otherwise, I dunno... surprise me!

So I guess I need to re-place my vial order request from several months ago? (I know I must have sent it when there were no vials to be had; just hate to miss out again! :))

GreenVelvet: Thanks for the heads up. I've been looking for ages for a place that sells these in quantities less than "case of 1000." ;)

Now I'll have to figure out what else I can get from Brian to make the shipping worthwhile...

You're welcome! Brian's company and service are fantastic.

If you're looking for something else to make the shipping worthwhile, I highly recommend his ink samples! They are a generous amount for a sample, and he has a huge range of colors.

Don't forget about Dillon, who sells these vials for 10¢ each, at cost. I purchased 30 vials from him for $3.00 (you can buy however many you want) plus $1 for a bubble envelope plus shipping, for a total of $6. It works on an honor system; you email him how many you need and your address, then send him a check after you receive the vials (add $1 if you pay by PayPal since their fees are high).

I ordered these from him in July 2010, so he's still selling these. fpninkvials@gmail.com

Brian Goulet of Goulet Pens also sells vials on his website.

I ordered 2 packets of 8 vials each, with a few ink samples ( since I couldn't resist! ) and got the whole package delivered in two days!

Now I'm ready to trade!! Thanks for the tip, Ilona.

I got a few small cartridge samples today for Private Reserve Velvet Black and one for a Private Reserve medium blue (it wasn't labeled, so I don't know the name). That's all I have for now- I just bought my first pen today!

I don't know much about inks yet, but I can use the small cartridges and am interested in trying pretty much anything that isn't too light. The recommended refills for my pen are Schneider®600 FP ink cartridges; MonteVerde® standard ink cartridges. I'm not sure what's comparable to those, but maybe you knowledgeable folks on here do!

I just ordered vials (yay!) so it may take a week or two for me to be up and running. In the meantime I'll list my (meager) ink collection and my wishlist. I'm really easy going, so if you would like a sample and want to trade paper or something else cool, just ask. B)

My bottled inks:

PR Chocolat

PR Cosmic Cobalt**

Noodlers Empire Red

Noodlers Heart of Darkness Bulletproof

Lamy turquoise

J.Herbin Larmes de Cassis

My cartridges:

Waterman Red (short/int'l)

Waterman Florida Blue (short/int'l)

Waterman Green (short/int'l)

Waterman black (long carts.)***

J. Herbin Rose Tendresse (short)

J.Herbin Ambre de Birmanie (short)

**The PR Cosmic Cobalt doesn't write as well as I'd like. I'm not sure if it's defective, or just typical of PR. Since I only have used two PR inks, it's hard for me to guess based on personal use! It lays down on the paper as a thin, very shaded, very watery ink. If you'd like a fill for free to see if it's just my personal preference at play or if it really is a cheapo bottle, just lemme know! "Buyer" beware though!!!

***I'm swimming in black Waterman long cartridges!! If you're feeling the pinch of the economy or would like to try one for free, just let me know. I have quite a few that I can send for free or a modest trade if you like. Also, I have a tall bottle of Noodlers HOD--if you would like a fill of that I have enough to send some free fills for a while as well.

What I'd like to try:

Nearly anything!! I'm pretty new to bottled inks, so I'm eager to try some brands before I commit to buying a whole bottle!

My favorites so far are Noodlers and J. Herbin. I'm a little soured on Private Reserve, but feel free to try to convert me!! I'm keen to try Iroshizuku ink, but I know it's pricey so we can barter a little if you'd like. I'm laid back and grateful to try anything really! I'm in the CONUS, but will ship worldwide.

Cheers,

TofuKat

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
