Info on the vials is on the first page of this thread, but that entry was updated December 2009. I assume it's pretty current. That's how I got mine.

I sent a note a week or so ago, have not heard yet. Has anyone been able to get vials recently?

When they broke open molecules, they found they were only stuffed with atoms. But when they broke open atoms, they found them stuffed with explosions

I wrote and heard back about 10 days ago, but haven't ordered any yet. What's a good "starter" number? (I also have no idea how much shipping will be--nice that this is done on an honor system, though. :))

Well, I feel neglected now...will have to resend my email and see what happens.

I would plan on a dozen at least, but I don't know what they cost to begin with.

If you get a vial for each one you send out, you should theoretically never run out as long as you actually use the ink you get instead of hoarding it. I might fall into the category of 'hoarder', so I usually figure what I will use and then buy about double that amount.

I'm thinking the vials would be good for carrying as "refills," yes? I'm wondering how much my pen will hold....

I have short international cartridges of Private Reserve Blue Suede (very classy; I love it) and a bottle of PR Fiesta Red, which mixes nicely with black for different dark-red colors.

Just checked the color charts. It looks as if your Tsukushi is a red-brown and the Tso-ro is a dark turquoise, so I guess you already have what I have. Unless you'd like to compare them. It might make an interesting review (she said, hinting blatantly). The only thing I really want for my small ink palette (mustn't go overboard) is a bottled turquoise, maybe Skrip and/or Syo-ro.

I just found a little picture story about Skrip Peacock Blue that takes me back to my teen years.

I have :

Noodler's Walnut

(and could potentially get Noodler's Red Black and Midnight Blue)

I am interested in :

Noodler's Red/Black

Noodler's Midnight Blue

Inks with ALOT of shading

Dunno, still working on my ink knowledge.

(sidebar, does shading come with the pen or with the ink? I have a Lamy Safari EF, but it writes like my Pilot Varsity M)

Contact me by PM, will answer within a day.

I just got my vials from Dillon today so I am ready to dive into the colorful inkwells of the ink exchange.

I have the following available for trade:

Noodler's: Black, Blue, Red, Sequoia, Ottoman Azure, Hunter Green (eternal), Luxury Blue (eternal)

Swisher's Swishmix Burgundy (waterproof)

Pelikan 4001: Blue-Black, Red

Mont Blanc: Royal Blue

J. Herbin: Bleue Nuit (Midnight Blue)

I also have the following cartridges:

Mont Blanc: Blue-black, Royal Blue

Waterman: Florida Blue

Parker Quink: Green, Red

I would like to try any ink that I don't have. I tend to lean toward the more conservative colors like black and/or blue but will throw in a green, purple or red to liven things up.

I am intrigued by the Pilot Iroshizuku inks but the price causes me to pause.

Happy writing!

I have all 30 of the J. Herbin inks (plus the 5 scented inks) that I'd be willing to trade for.....anything actually. I want to try as many inks as I can for my own reference and comparison, and for my blog (Ink Nouveau). I'm most eager to try some Waterman, Iroshizuku, and de Atramentis, as these are what I get asked about most often, but I want to be familiar with all brands of ink. Heck, I'll even trade paper and notebooks and stuff if you prefer. I have a 2-month old and my wife just quit her job to be at home, so I'm a *little* strapped for cash to buy inks to try myself. I do have to get my hands on some vials though, but I was looking to buy some anyway.

What I want:

Montblanc Sepia

Noodler's Bad Gator Green

Noodler's Polar Brown

What I'm willing to share:

Aurora Black

Diamine Sepia

J Herbin Lie de The

Noodler's Lexington Gray

Noodler's Polar Black

Noodler's Zhivago

Pelikan Brown

Private Reserve Orange Crush

Private Reserve Sherwood Green

Private Reserve Velvet Black

I have vials waiting to be filled with wonderful ink!

I'd also be willing to do a straight-up trade of a bottle of Montblanc Sepia for my bottle of Montblanc Racing Green—the Racing Green has had two fills taken out of it and that's all. Of course, by the time you read this, a couple dozen people may have gotten vials of it. I'm just saying I'm curious enough about the Montblanc Sepia to trade it sight unseen.

Original or reformulated GI Green? If the latter, I could do a Midway Blue trade.

Is there a way to tell which?

Good question! I'm not entirely sure, but if you bought it recently, it's probably the reformulated. I saw your scans in another thread, and I am betting that it is. I have a sample of the original formula, and it is much lighter.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
    • A Smug Dill
Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
