Guest Denis Richard
To get the vials we use for the ink exchange system, contact Dillon at fpninkvials at gmail dot com. Though vials will hold about 7 ml of ink, the user's nib will displace some--thus filling with about 5 ml for trading is recommended. This is where you post your requests and offers for the "KCat system" of vial sample exchange. I propose a simple format such as : "I have :(list)I am interested in :(list)Contact me by e-mail/PM/etc...." KCat
High Corien. The vials are not available at this time. I have been getting a trickle of interest however in another round of these so I will probably end up buying some soon and offering them again. It will be at least 2 weeks. I could send you a couple to get you started if you like. Contact me backchannel and I'll give you more info. I'll write up a new post on the topic soon and get a better idea of how many folks are interested. The problem being that buying them in quantities less than 250 is not possible. it was very difficult for me to find that small volume - other companies wanted to sell me 1000 of 'em. a) too expensive not enough interest from folks for me to make up my cost or avoid filling my house with the darn things. The only "rules" are to have fun and keep us posted about what you're interested in and what you have available for trade. I've had to update my list 3X already. Gerry
Oh, good - finally a post (Kendall's) who doesn't have more ink than most retailers Now I feel it's safe to post my meager hoard as well (besides I just got the vials).. What I have: - Revised May 10, 2006 Pelican: Brilliant Black, Royal Blue, Blue BlackParker Quink: Blue, Black (temporarily out of the Blue)Noodlers: Ottoman Azure, Turquoise, FireflyPrivate Resesrve: Dakota RedSheaffer Skrip: Blue, BlackWaterman: Blue Black, Florida Blue, South Seas Blue, Purple, Red and Green What I need: Anything else... I am partial to Blues, and on the search for the perfect blue. PR American Blue has been suggested as that. And I gotta find my inner self (but I worry about being too flamboyant with lavenders etc...) so, perhaps a diversion into brown & copper tones, or some greens. I tend to like saturated colours rather than pastels. Cheers, Gerry Edited May 10, 2006 by Gerry
Keith with a capital K
I know I don't look like a man who needs anything and although I run a shop, I really don't sell ink (yet). Some of the inks I have listed exist in very small quantities so I could probably only accomodate a few requests at best and the same applies to the vintage inks as they are not easily replaceable. I wouldn't even know what ink's I could possibly want. I'll have to read through the lists here. Waterman: South Seas blue (vintage)Florida blueBlue blackBlackGreenHavana brownWashable blue (vintage)Red Sheaffer: All my Sheaffer ink is old stock. Guest Denis Richard
South Seas Blue is already vintage ? I am that old ? When did they stop making it ? Edited December 4, 2004 by Denis Richard
Keith with a capital K
Denis... the bottle of SS Blue I have has a .25 price tag and probably dates to the late 40's or early 50's. Hence the "vintage" label. Waterman still makes South Seas blue so no SSB fans have to panic. KCat
South Seas Blue is already vintage ? I am that old ? When did they stop making it ? Is it possible Keith was referring to NOS WM SSB - that which was made prior to 96 or whenever it was they took out the lovely "scent"? KCat
Are we speaking of that strong "metallic" scent, or is it something else ? I would have characterized it as a camphor smell. Definitely not a perfume or contaminant smell. But I suppose to some it might smell metallic. It was pretty much eliminated in the late 90s. not sure exactly when. Probably because of "hazardous" chemical laws or something. I notice however that many new inks have similar smells (some of the Noodler's do) while for some time the more common inks (Quink, Skrip) didn't seem to have that character. For some of us, the smell of NOS WM ink is almost an addiction I think. KCatSave animal lives - support your local animal shelterMy personal blog https://kcdockalscribbling.comMy nature blog https://kcbeachscribbles.comVenerable are letters, infinitely brave, forlorn, and lost. Gerry
If I may make a guess, the particular odour WM was noted for may have been Phenol, an effective anti bacterial/fungal preservative. Gerry
