Diamine Violet

I hope the images accurately reflect the color range of this chameleon. I don't own any other violet or purple inks. As I look at the bagasse review sheet in indirect sunlight with the naked eye, I'd say the color is between Aurora Blue and FedEx Purple, but much closer to the former. On Moleskine and Mead Five-Star paper, on the other hand, it's closer to FedEx Purple.

Below is Diamine Violet on cardstock. In direct and indirect sunlight, I barely see a violet tinge in the Dollar pen and Phileas entries. I see nothing but deep blue with the Sheaffer calligraphy pen. Under flourescent light, the hint of violet is more apparent. In any case, you'd never know the ink on the cardstock was the same as the ink on the bagasse.

Can't seem to see that Aurora Blue is violet compared to this ink. Thanks for the detailed review.

I'm seeing a duplicate pair of images in my OP. Only the first two were supposed to have appeared. The second two don't capture the colors well, and I tried to delete them. Helllllllp!

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I greatly enjoyed your review. I've considered this color before and you make my want to order a bottle for myself. The only thing that hinders me is the fact that I still have nearly 3oz. of Violet Vote which looks very similar to the scans I've seen. You're right about using the right pen. Depending on the pen and paper combo Violet Vote can be anywhere between a pale violet to a nice rich blue. Now that I think of it, why not have another bottle of such a lovely color? All the better to do comparisons with, right? Thanks for the review.

Many FPNers see a violet or purplish tinge in Aurora Blue. I don't see it. I simply put Aurora Blue in there for comparison, since Diamine Violet appeared so blue on the cardstock.

Sorry to resurrect this ancient thread, but I was wondering if anyone else had noticed a color change as Diamine Violet dries? I was using it to write a letter last night, and I noticed that the pen was laying down a reddish-purple line (sorry, I don't know the terminology for the various shades of purple), but as it dried, it lost the red and became a nice bluish purple.

Edit: I was using my Online with a 0.8 italic stublet.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
