I lived in Heidelberg for five years, so was able to travel to many of the boutiques.

I liked the Strasbourg boutique the best. It had nothing to do with the nice young woman there, BTW. :-)

If I had not already been betrothed, I would be living in Alsace today.

And Montblanc representatives; Pencraft in Adelaide, The Pen Shoppe in Sydney and one in Perth I can't remember the name of.

There used to be one in Pittsburgh Airport, which I've been to.

Apart from that, Santa Clara, CA.

Hello,

Visited most of the ones in Abu Dhabi & Dubai. Prefer the ones in Abu Dhabi. We usually bought some pens for the men & leather goods for the ladies as gifts. (Didn't care for their watches.)

That sounds like discrimination against the ladies! I think you should buy a fountain pen for me IMMEDIATELY to make up for past misdeeds. <grin>

Not to worry : we always hit the Gold Souq in Dubai for the ladies. Once they've had 24kt, you can't give'em 22kt. <grin>

Has anyone bought a pen or watch on a cruise ship? I recall a sales associate saying they were ADs and duty free.

2 years ago, on a cruise ship, I was looking for MBs, but they were very expensive, despite the duty free.

jeen, have you ever bought?? Were reasoable prices??

As I recall the prices on ship weren't great deals, but I learned that on the first night or two there was a 20% discount. I missed the discount and didn't buy. But having MBs on board was tempting. : )

I've been to the following MB boutiques:

Zurich

Dusseldorf

Koln

Brussels

Frankfurt

Toronto

Heathrow

Tampa

Orlando

Interestingly I do not own a Mont Blanc pen. I do buy their ink though. The help in the Orlando boutique was far and away the best service I've ever received..ANYHERE!

I was wearing cargo shorts and a T-shirt and when I asked about ink she asked if I was Canadian, I said yes, and then she went on about how nice Canadians are. Finally we got to the ink part and I said I was looking for fountain pen ink. Her service went from good to great. I left there having only spent $27 on 2 bottles of ink, but with a bag full of books and pamphlets!

Just visited 2 in the past 2 weeks, both in the SF Bay Area....Santa Clara and San Francisco...

I found that the sales people at both were extremely helpful, friendly, courteous, and not pushy, very low-key sales approach.

I've actively visited the Montblanc Boutique in Düsseldorf, Germany.

I've more fleetingly seen the one at Düsseldorf airport.

I really like the Santa Clara boutique. Except for seeing some things they don't stock, I'd stick with that store for everything.

Do any of the boutiques actually have GOOD inexpensive buys or are they all full retail.

Always posh, high quality boutiques, prime locations, frequently knowledgeable staff. Service from excellent to indifferent. They do not always honor guarantees and workmanship. Many repairs cost an arm and a leg, sometimes they d for just a service charge. Probably sky high rental and prices to match. They know how to market!

nice to look around and see the new and old models, better to buy on the net or from wholesalers if you can. Beware of the fleabay shysters and fakes though.

I've been to nearly all their boutiques in Israel, at airports in Europe and US, and the store at Cape twn's water front. CT is awesome.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
