A few of the Sydney FPNers met today, and feiye very kindly let us look at her Fellowship pen. I was very pleased to find that it's every bit as awesome as I'd hoped, and is even a good size for me to hold.

August is going to be a really long month...

I've decided that the first drink for this pen will be Waterman Havana...now I just have to find a good occasion to ink it up!

In rotation:

Pelikan M400 with Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji

Nakaya Kuro-tame Desk Pen with Platinum Blue

Visconti Van Gogh Maxi with Aurora Black

Let's see the writing samples, Chris! :)

I really would like to see how Tsukushi looks coming from a flexy stub.

Wooohooo!!!!

Now my first thought on seeing this pen was how small it is. You'll have to understand that while waiting for this pen to arrive I have been playing with her big brother! I've taken shots with the flash to bring out that chocolate colour... Most of the pictures already shown depict the pen more closely to how you'd see it indoors.

Of course she's actually larger than the Piccolos that I use daily...

Overall I'm very pleased. This is my second Maki-e pen and my second Danitrio. Now I'll have to think long and hard about what ink to put in her... Right now, I'll satisfy myself with just admiring her lines...

Thank you Kevin!

My fellowship pen—though I am now starting to think of it as a Friendship Pen— arrived today, but the impatient delivery post man went away and i didn't know he had even been except for the UPS update. I was home at the time, but the dog alarms [barking] didn't go off loud enough, i suppose [i was on the phone.].

Patience. tomorrow. Hopefully.

Speaking of patience, I was also in a rush to get to a physio appointment for which I was running late. Turns out I was 167 hours and 43 minutes early as the appt was for next Monday.

I am meant to wait. I will be strong. Meanwhile, go ahead and start, I'm sure my order will be here soon!!!!!

Just an advice, Miranda... just push the MUTE key in your dog for 24 hours ... just in case ... :D

Well. I was not abte to wait too much and inked the pen with Sailor Jentle brown, just to compare sensations of this new EEF nib with the Pilot F nib, Edison flexible custom grounded XXF and Nakaya F and XF nibs that I have.

One thing, it really draws an EEF line, much thinner than Omas EF's, thinner than Pilot's F nib and comparable to Nakaya's XF but a tad smoother. The nib is a soft one and has this behaviour with a good flex given the type of nib (soft, no flex), ranging from a hair thinn line to a broad 1mm line if pushed intentionally, but in no way pushed hard at all. Very confortable in use. This long awaited nib is showing very good manners. I have been using it all the morning and has given always a very positive sensation...

As pointed by other fellows, I agree, the size of the pen is a very good compromise. It sits effortlessly in the hand and is a joy to use. It is a work of art that deserves love and use. A perfect combination indeed and thanks to the efforts by Dani and surely also by Kevin, made affordable too. It is a perfect sample of outstanding Maki-e offered at an entry level price. Many other comparable pens are offered around at about double the price... That says it all...

Well done! ... and once more... THANKS, BIG THANKS!!!

AAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

My fellowship pen is now sitting at the international airport awaiting its flight back to the States!!!!

No contact made with me about this, of course. I blame the local hopeless deliverer. It appears he was trying to phone me when he tried to deliver it, but i was on the phone, which surely showed i was at home. But he scurried off. Curse him!

Oh well. Some nice helpful people are looking into it. Told one it was a fountain pen, so he described it as stationery!!!!

Thank goodness I have a few other pens to play with!!!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
