Kevin, just tell me where they sell it. I have tried every Borders and Barnes and Noble in town, and they all said they have stopped selling it.

I bought one directly from www.penworld.com. I used their message form to ask about whether I could buy the current issue from them, and Tina Dammeyer wrote back and said sure! I ordered the June issue with the understanding that she would send me the current (August) issue. It cost $11.00. Ordering online was well worth not having to call any more Borders or having to park near Union Square in San Francisco (if that Borders even carried this magazine and had this issue).

Thanks Ethernatrix. Exactly which issue is the one that I should get? June or August?

I wish.....could you imagine all the pens, etc. I could buy? :puddle:

And you could buy anything on Ebay......limited edition plates of B. Obama, Fluke electrical testers, potato chips in the shape of Mother Theresa.....oh, the possibilities.....

OK, let me contribute with some closeup photos of this beauty. I wish I could use the light with the magic that Lisa does... but I'm very far away from her mastery eye, finger and mind...

Congratulations on receiving your pen.

Your pictures are awesome. I love the closeup pics. I'm the one with the weak photography skills.

Lovely close-ups. And you have captured it! That wonderful crystal blue flower and leaf right below the hat and walking stick. Also, thanks for the clam shots. Sorry! I repeat myself, but I really like that clam.

More pics! I was staking out the mailbox for the last week after Kevin's email letting me know that my pen was shipped (BTW - anyone else really love the way that the USPS has a "tracking" site that really doesn't track anything?). :bonk: I use Priority Mail all the time but never realized that they never really provide an update except on the day it is shipped telling you the shipping acceptance date and time. Torture when you really, really, really, can't wait for something to arrive! But I digress...

The pen arrived and it is a joy! Fun story: Last week I realized that outside my building there were bellflowers and there was one plant in a sea of white bellflowers that was the purple/blue Japanese Bellflower depicted in raden on the pen! Whether karma, fate or divine providence, it was a cool find and heightened my anticipation for the pen to arrive! First fill was Noodler's Perwinkle ink (to keep with the purple/blue bellflower theme).

I got mine with a flexi-stub (first one among my Dani-Trio's). In playing around with it I find it offers a nice line variation. I like the nib, but not sure yet if I love it; its a little tempermental (can't write a signature with it or it skips when loses ink flow), so I may have to tweak it a little or try another ink (the type I initially used is a little viscous). The pen is definitely a chocolate-y brown and the autumn red/gold colors on the leaves are very pretty. The leaf on the cap and the clam on the bottom are nice touches! I really don't see much of the purple showing through yet - maybe as it "ages" with use.

Some pics below taken with my digital camera (nothing fancy - just a little Sony Cyber-Shot). You'll see my new DTF pen with the bellflowers, a writing sample, and a cameo with it's "fellow" Japanese pens from my collection to give you an idea of the DTF pen's size (3 Dani's and a Nakaya Piccolo). Can't do close-up shots very successfully with this little camera - Jose's posted pics posted earlier do a nice job of capturing the detail. It's extraordinary how fine many of the artist's touches were, especially around "Basho's" sandals and hat. The lines are the width of a hair. I'm looking forward to the Feb Pen Show in L.A. and hopefully meeting some of the other DTF pen owners, the artist and Kevin. This has been a really fun project!

Enjoy! --Chris

Chris: Great photography! Looks like your other Danitrios wont feel lonely.

Except, of course, for the lone Nakaya. :)

Like your artistic set up for the shots. If you tends to grip down on or press harder on paper like I often do, I found stiff stub more suitable for me. Just let me know and I'll be happy to change the nib for ya.

Best,

Kevin

Thanks Kev - that's super-cool of you to offer to swap it out. I'm going to give this flexi stub a couple of weeks to win me over (or for me to make sure it's not "operator error") and then maybe look to switch to the stiff stub. You're right - I do tend to use a pretty firm writing stroke. I have an old Weidlich matchstick-filling pen with a flexible stub that I love using (looks kind of like a shorter version of our DTF pen, with a snake clip and minus the awesome maki-e), but this Dani Trio nib is a different animal.

I'll feed it well, take it out for regular walks, and remain calm and assertive. If nothing else works I'll send it to Kevin (the Pen Whisperer) for rehabilitation.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
