Hero 329 "painted arrow"

Recommended Posts

I received three 329's yesterday. I was surprised (and frankly a little disappointed) to find out that they have a painted arrow in gold close to the nib. Would anyone in the community know if the 616 and the 100 versions of parker have that?

It has been difficult for me to tell from the pictures when I view on line becuase sometimes the nib is capped or the pen is slanted.

Thank you.

The arrow is not painted, it is embedded in the plastic shell.

This is good because, unlike the one on the Parker 61, this one does not detach itself easily from the shell. It is also bad, becasue the base metal under the plating shows up as a greenish layer of oxidation fairly early in the life of the pen.

Thanks for the clarification. Do you also know if this arrow is on the Hero 100 and the Hero 616? Thanks!

Not present on the Hero 100, I don't know about the 616: I'll go and check and let you know.

I have one 329 that has a painted arrow, and one that doesn't have any painted arrow. But their caps are also different, but both are called 329. I don't know if one is a fake or what.

Thanks for the correction, that's what I get for writing from memory instead of checking. And I agree, the older version seems to be more solid. I also like the cap and clip better.

The Hero 100 Gold has an inlay, but it's not an arrow like the one on the Parker 61. It looks more like a Star Trek symbol.

I agree with you. I've never carried the 'new' 329 and don't plan to as long as I can still get hold of the original stock.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
