Inlaid/Hooded nibs pens list

Recommended Posts

Does anybody have a list of pens with inlaid nibs (Like Sheaffer Emperial, WingSung, Waterman Carene) or hooded nibs (like P51, Hero, Aurora, etc)?

Vintage hooded: Omas 361 and Omas VS.

Among Chinese makers, Huashilai produces some hooded nibs, also -- my 2375, for instance, is as fully hooded as a Parker 51, though only the last centimeter of the hood is plastic (it's joined to the chrome section at an angle just below the gripping area).

Does not always write loving messages.

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

There is a really important correction that Not a Number had for the list - Parker Falcon should be on the Integrated nib list, . Pilot Falcon is a traditional nib and does not belong on this list at all.

You should get a Yink, I think.

I'd call the Hero 257 semi-hooded -- it's one of the "cayman mouth" Hero pens, with a hood design similar to a Parker 45.

Does not always write loving messages.

Does not always foot up columns correctly.

Does not always sign big checks.

Did we forget about a fairly common American pen with hooded nib? Try the Eversharp Fifth Avenue.

It's useful to have all these in one list, thanks for taking the time to do it!

Esterbrook Phaeton is a hooded nib pen. Gorgeous pens with several varitions of decorations on the nib.

Mentmoore....British hooded nib from the 1950s--button filler

Integrated nub...Cross Verve

Somehow, conical nibs (Sheaffer Triumph and the like) seem to fit in here...they have not been mentioned...or listed...

amongst the less expensive and 3rd tier we have a few more of hooded or semi-hooded:

1) wality 77d

2) inkograph

3) wearever "citation" type [copy of the taperite]

4) wearever pioneer

5) Parker inflection

6) Kaweco made a school pen i consider a semi-hooded. i have one but no pictures. sorry!!

edited to correct: wearever citation type is open nib, tho' small!!!

While browsing an internet website of an Italian minor producer, I found this pen that I think is worth to include in the hooded (semi-hooded?) list:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
