145 vs 146

Does anyone have comparison pictures of a 145 and a 146 side by side? I would go to the mont blanc boutique in atlanta to see for myself but I have no time due to studying for classes, national boards and taking care of patients. I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Here you go Adam -

Here is a photo with a calibrating ruler showing the MB 149 Diplomat at the top and the MB 146 LeGrand at the bottom:

Most users find the larger girth of the 146 model to be more comfortable compared to the narrower 145 - even if you have small hands. We are all so accustomed to the narrow gauge #2 pencils and the Bic stick that we forget the ergonomics of comfortable hand position. A wider girth prevents your fingers from crowding and cramping in the grip.

The 149 Diplomat has an even wider girth and is even more comfortable.

If you want a cartridge pen (because cartridges are faster and easier to change in class and on the wards) consider the 147. The 147 Traveler is the same size and shape as the 146, but uses MB cartridges instead of a piston fill. The 147 cannot use a converter, but it does hold two cartridges back to back - one for a spare.

Spend an hour at the Lenox Square Mall Boutique - ask for Gail - tell her I sent you.

I have to agree with this. But then, I have to agree or my eleven 149s will revolt.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Ray,

Thank you for the picture with the comparison. When I have the time to swing by the store I will ask for Gail but I don't see myself having the time for quite a while. Thanks again for the picture.

Hi Adam,

Here's a photo showing the size of a 145 in comparison with some other common pens.

The 145 is relatively small in comparison to a 146 or a 149 but it is not in comparison to other pens. It is about the same size as a Parker 51.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
