Hmmm. Well, now I know what ink I want to use on checks for paying my bills & taxes &c. Maybe it'll be so ugly they'll stop invoicing me. [Fat Chance] 😂

OK OK OK, so I already blew my ink buying moratorium ...

BUT BUT BUT it was only a little bit - I've been wanting it so much, it finally came up at a reasonable price, and it's just one, itsy bitsy 18ml bottle - yeah, I was going to get regardless.

PenBBS 232 Ugly, which is based on Pantone 448 C, chosen by researchers in Australia as the ugliest color in the world, given its capability to "minimize appeal" and "maximize perceived harm". (see Does this colour turn you off?, for example) @lgsoltek has a, ahem, beautiful review of Ugly here:

BRING ON THE UGLY!

(And back to, uhhhhh, not buying ink (?) - yes, definitely! )

Why does this make me think of an assignment I had in one of my color and design classes in college: We were supposed to choose several colors of Color-Aid paper and make a design based on those colors.  And I picked some muddy greens and reds with a lot of black tones to them, and when I was done, I actually found myself sort of LIKING them in combination (which I suspect was the point of the exercise).

But, yeah, after having looked at the link, Pantone #448C is not exactly my cup. of tea (OTOH, if you add a little grey and brown to it, the color wouldn't be that far off from Noodler's El Lawrence...).

Then you might want to consider PenBBS 229 Oolong, a murky, grayish, lighter green I recently received and can recommend. 🙃

Didn't care for this when it came out, but then I discovered Muschiatto Verde.  I'll stick with that.

Glad you like the Stipula (which is on my want list)! It appears like it might be more of a yellow leaning color. (?)

Just looked that one up.  And you're right, the swab does look a lot like El Lawrence.

But of course since I *have* a bottle of El Lawrence, I don't need to get the PenBBS ink anytime soon.

Sounds good. I suppose Lawrence, as a Brit, likely knows how to make a proper 'cup of tea'. 😉

A touch in the lighter greenish shading areas

Add lightness and simplicate.

All Birminghams:

Airline,

Eroded Bronze,

Monongahela,

& from the new release: Heron.

A disadvantage of being one of the 'Firsties', of course, is the gamble one's taking on liking it, having no reviewers to rely on for examples. But this one seems to have enough hue saturation to be able to put it to use.

Not waiting for it, just went to buy it. I am starting to be a fan of J. Herbin. And by the way, all the inks in the picture have good water resistance.

Used to use Montblanc inks but there is a world of inks out there.

Pilot Iroshizuku Ina-Ho. Reading about how it is to be discontinued, and never having tried it, I scouted about and found a bottle at Gold Spot.

Is this true?  I hadn't heard it was being discontinued.  I like this ink!

There is a thread here suggesting it's true...

I'm waiting for these ones...

Diamine Crimson, Diamine Vivaldi, Laban Demeter Brown, Laban Poseidon Green 🙂

Oh dear.  I have a spare unopened bottle of tsukushi, so I should be okay there, but... I think I will soon be waiting for another bottle of Ina-ho

I still haven't finished any of the 50ml bottles of Pilot Iroshizuku ink I bought in 2013. In fact, I don't think any of them are even half-consumed. Even though I enjoy the look of Ina-ho, especially when coming out of my Pilot ‘Hannya Shingyo’ which is adorned with the text of the Heart Sutra written in gold maki-e on the barrel, I think I'd be more upset if it was Platinum Classic Ink Khaki Black or even Citrus Black that is being discontinued.

At the current street prices for Pilot Iroshizuku, in the absence of clearance discounts, I don't think I'll be leaping to secure any more bottles of any colour.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
