Question about Haolilai brand

Greetings all,

Newbie here, and of course found the site because of my constant searching online related to my addiction

I do have a question as I have been unable to find anything online about a certain type of pen manufacturer - “HAOLILAI”

Someone recently has offered to sell me a pen by this maker. Haven't written with it, but beautiful from the outside in a lovely orange swirl celluloid. He calls it "Royalty orange." Has a 14k M nib with screw type converter, not quite 5 and a half inches in length and weighs a bit over an ounce. Probably TMI, but just wanted to give as much as possible in case someone can help me.

Anyone know anything about these pens or maker that can give me advice on value or where to go to research?

Thanks, j

I purchased mine in India for less than $10. You can find this brand at www.isellpens.com, but I haven't been able to locate any info about them. Mine writes wonderful, and another person on FPN purchased one and loves it as well. But just be forewarned that these can be had pretty inexpensively.

I now have 2 Haolilai pens - the 601F (aka ZHF101) and the 611F (aka ZHF300.) I have a review of the former on this site, and I remain delighted with the pen - though it is quite a wet writer!

The 611F has a different (more conventional) nib design, and though it's not as friction-free as the 601, it's still a delight to write with. It's also more of an Asian "medium", as opposed to the definite American-style medium of the 601.

From my experience with these two pens, I'd say you'll have good luck with their product; I'm very pleased with mine.

Mine is on the wet side as well, which is nice because many of my pens aren't. And I also forgot to mention that mine is monstrously smooth!

Thanks for the feedback. I couldn't resist the loovely color, so I went ahead and ordered it - with a 14k nib at that price seemed an okay deal. Can't wait to get it and try it out - will let you know how mine writes.

Man, do I love this site - now another addiction to add to hunting for the pens themselves

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
