Is the 149 Diplomat different from a normal 149? Besides your special nib off course.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Hi,

RobertJRB, no, this is just the normal pen from the 149 series. The following numbering/naming system is only for Montblanc Meisterstuck series.

144 - Classique

145 - Chopin

146 - LeGrand

147 - Traveller

149 - Diplomat

Maybe someone can help add in numbering for Mozart?

Regards,

Roger

The Mozart is 114. Why not 14*, I don't understand? It is also called HaWAM. The Annual Edition and LE have different series, like the 20003 Annual LE is 7411.

I recently fell under the spell of the 149 with a broad nib - a present from my wife.

One of the few pens that lives up to the hype, and then some.

Enjoy in good health!

Too many pens; too little writing.

What makes me wonder is, what does the oblique part of the nib do for you. You write in script. Did it not work out with a regular nib?

Hi Sinchan.

Actually, you know, the Meisterstück may have come out in 1924, but the 149 did not debut until the early '50s. It's predecessor is the 139. Montblanc likes to say that the design hasn't changed much of the Meisterstück line, but has changed a'plenty! From the 12x pens, then the 13x pens, then the 14x pens, then in the 60's, you get the 12 and 14 and their gold variants, 74x pens, then finally back to 14x pens in the last few decades. Then you have styles of nibs changing and materials they were made from changing over the years, filling mechanism and material they were made from... And many other small details...

The Constitution says "We the People," not "We the Democrats" or "We the Republicans."

Great review. I bought my first 149 after a long wait and it became a cherished pleasure. I had it in my sport coat pocket when I arrived at the airport from out of town on a business trip. The lovely woman who met me at the airport took my sport coat and folded it over her arm as I loaded my luggage in the trunk of her car.

When we arrived at her home I discovered that my cherished 149 was gone from my pocket and it dawned on both of us that it had fallen out when she folded the coat over her arm. She knew the history of the 149 so she was equally upset. I couldn't be mad at her but I was upset.

The next day she arrived at my office with a new 149, a bottle of MB black ink and a bottle of Jack Daniels. All was instantly forgiven.

We've been married for almost 12 years now. biggrin.gif

As good as those soundbyte insert stories of different couples in "When Harry Met Sally". :)

Curious. Why, of all Limited/Annual edition foutain pens, mostly 146s, name such a short pen "Mozart"? He was 1.6m tall.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
