I loved your review - indeed a new standard of excellence. It has even prompted me to get my Starwalker out of its box and try to get the intermittent skipping fixed, though I do find the pen less comfortable to use than others - it just does not seem to fit my hand unthinkingly.

Chris

I recently had intermittent skipping problems with a Meisterstück 142. What solved my problem (for now) was soaking the nib and section for two days in distilled water. Considering the colour that still came out (after having it cleaned very thoroughly) ink build-up must have been the problem.

Outstanding review, thank you!

Your review, passion, and penmanship are something for me to aspire to. I found your review of the 149 terrific and hilarious (at your intended humor).

I know there are many MB haters, understandably so, but I've always fancied the brand and design. As with many high-end manufacturers, the high price facade both lures and disgusts, only to be determined by which side of the fence you stand. For me, you've helped steer me towards my next pen, my first serious "investment" pen.

Cheers!

+1

I have quite a number of recent MB's and these are the pens that got me (re-)interested in FPs in the first place. Now that I am starting to learn more, it is easy to see that they are somewhat overpriced and that a lot of their competition is not getting the mainstreet attention they deserve.

But heck, that is marketing for you, and unless we want a Politburo determining what we write with, we can only hope that other FP brands find new ways to develop their business.

Until then, it will take the uninitiated some time and experience to learn the intricacies and variety of FPs - a journey I am still enjoying.

For the sake of completeness - I still like writing with my MBs very much - they are just somewhat over-represented in my collection (for the time being ;-)

Wonderful review for a great looking pen. I got mine, a Midnight Black resin not too long ago and enjoying every bit of it. I ran back into the shop again to pick up a rollerball/fineliner of the same design for purpose of drawing and more casual use.

My link

Life is like Chinatown signage, its cluttering, confusing but everything that you need is there, just have to look harder....

Fabulously gorgeous pen... I held one in my hands and it was smooth. The lack of an appropriate piston converter bothers me, and the Monteverde one is far too small... It's the only thing keeping me from getting it.

I've had the rubber and platinum for 2 years now. I liked it when I first got it. For some reason, it now seems to be smoother than when I first got it, and it glides beautifully. I really love this pen. BTW - your pictures are great.

All I want is 1 more pen, and 1 more bottle of ink, and maybe 1 more pad of paper. Well, at least until tomorrow. Oh yeah, and throw in that bottle of single malt. Is that asking for too much?

thanks Chris.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
