Noodler's GI Green

Triplet Mom

Recommended Posts

After having the pleasure of playing with inks at the Noodler's display at the NE Pen Show, I purchased the new GI Green ink.

It goes down almost Emerald green, but after a few hours changes to an almost olive color with an unusual bright orange halo effect around the letters as seen in this second photo.

And here is a timed example of how much the ink color changed over a three hour period. The writing above the "Mon 1:28pm" is from yesterday, to show the full extent of color change. It's pretty cool!

Has anyone else tried this ink and had the same change in color?

I find inks which separate into more than one color so very cool. I wish there were more of them.

Thanks for including the ink as used in a flex pen -- it's a great test for feathering.

Great review, and a seriously cool colour (or should that be colours?).

I have this feeling that I need a bottle of this. I don't see it on the websites of the usual suspects. Anyone know if it's available in the UK?

Thanks,

Glenn.

I hope someone responds. I've searched all the ones I know of and its' not out there yet I guess. I want to know what other colors are in the series!

I picked up a bottle of the Noodler's V-mail Rabaul Red at the Boston Pen Show yesterday, but haven't found any information on the series yet.

I spoke with Nathan about these inks. He had a typed-up sheet of information on them, but it wasn't out all the time. I think you had to know to ask, and I happened to be standing there when someone asked so I later quizzed him further.

No, these inks aren't available in the UK yet - they're not even officially available in the U.S. yet. They are a kind of prototype that Nathan said he was trying out at the NE Pen Show. Based on how they did, and how people like them, he'll figure out whether to offer them.

I bought the Midway Blue and I LOVE IT - photos will be up shortly on my blog (within a day or so).

Ahh I wish I had know they were available, I would have paid someone to purchase me a set. My loss I guess. I hope they become a reality I'm very interested in the whole set of inks. (wink wink) if someone has one to sell I'd be up for it!

I was very relieved when I saw the bottle included in the review and noticed the military aircraft. As a physician, GI Green has a very different connotation to me (i.e. gastro-intestinal green)!

I am now regretting missing the NE Pen Show...I'll have to be sure to clear the calendar next year!

I look forward to seeing the Midway Blue review.

Cheers!

Finally he said, "Well, the hours are good..."

The Vogon stared down at him as sluggish thoughts moiled around in the murky depths.

"Yeah," he said, "but now you come to mention it, most of the actual minutes are pretty lousy."

well, as a parent of three boys, that green reminded me of something I used to find in diapers. GastroGreen would be a neat name perhaps???

  • 3 weeks later...

I normally wouldn't think of this as being one of "my" colors, but I really do like this one. There's something almost metallic looking about it. Perhaps it's the light? Regardless, I will definitely pick up this ink at some point.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
