I Have the Fellowship Prototype Pens!

Recommended Posts

As promised from Danitrio, a packaged arrived safely and of course camera wnet to work. There are 2 pens in this package and one is based on the sketch I shown here earlier and one other which was not shown here. I am extremely happy to present the pens to you. This base urushi color is so interesting on up close examination, but I am afraid my photos do not do it justice. Some explaination is necessary here. The base urushi is purple, but since there are no colorless urushi (unless man-made), the transparant urushi is actually "brownish", so mixing it with the purple resulted in a very interesting and unique color. The color is best described as "chocolatey" (yum), but with hint of purple showing around the edges as seen on the last photo under intense light, now how cool is that!! The maki-e work is of course very detailed not to mention a splash of raden on the flower is a very nice touch indeed.

PLEASE NOTE: For communication, please use: internetpens@gmail.com. Please do not use PM as my PM fills up quickly and the 5 min delay will slow communication way down. Thanks.

OK, time for me to show the pens already :headsmack:

Danitrio has approved both designs for you to choose. I know which one I like better

The price for the original design (#1) is $850 delivered within US and $875 international, while the second design is $975 delivered within US and $995 international (to keep my promise to make these pens under 1K).

So, please let me know which one you prefer and both pens can come with clips if you want clips.

PLEASE NOTE: For communication, please use email: internetpens@gmail.com. Please do now use PM, as my PM fills up quickly and the 5 min delay will slow communication way down.

Thanks for looking and have a great and safe Memorial Day weekend.

Best,

Kevin

So in the first there's some small bits of raden, but it doesn't look like there's any in the second?

Oh my! Beautiful!

Email comin' with my preference, but I'll say it here too - I like our original vision. It is simple, elegant and the haiku represents us so well. The small touch of raden was perfect. The second prototype is fabulous and that is an incredible amount of maki-e for the price. Very beautiful. I still prefer our original vision, though. And that urushi... wow! I love it!!! Mine!!!

Leave it up to you to be difficult, Deidre.

For the first time in my life (I think) I actually like the less expensive version.

Version #1 for me w/clip and EF flexible.

Kevin, any idea where the clip will be located?

I'm coming to understand the true meaning of the word lust. That second color is so attractive.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

Wow, tough choice ... I like everything about option #1. But I love the Basho figure on option #2 (the rest of the motif doesn't spin my wheels, though)

I'm gonna have to think about this one.

Is the clam on the end of the barrel on both pens (it was in the original design), or just option #2? If it isn't there on option #1, is there a clam anywhere on that pen?

I like the first design very much. Its simplicity suits the subject matter very well.

You must be very happy with the results, Kevin!

Hi Wendy,

Both pens have the same base urushi color. The last picture is to show the very subtle purple on the edge of chocolate

Currently only on the second design. Asking them add one should not be a problem.

Hi Kevin,

both designs are splendid, but my heart goes out to the Original design. Email sent as well for original design, clipless. Thanks again for making this happen! :notworthy1:

Hi Kev,

Yes, I am extremely happy with the result. Since some of you asked, so I will state my preference is the first one as well. I have always said that more expensive does not mean necessary better. I tend to like maki-e that left something to imaginations. Although Basho in second pen is based on a tex drawing from an old book. I think only see Basho's sandals, walking stick and straw hat give more to one's imagination and to one's own interpretation. He wrote this Haiku as his last from this journey. Seeing his gears here does that mean he is done with all the travels, or did he simply just finish this one and started another? It is more abstract of the two. Glad you like the pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
