Webster - Winds Like a Watch

A thread here mentions a Sears catalog with a Webster pen which has an exclusive filler which "winds like a watch". The last post in the thread seems to have the best resolution of the catalog page. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/349491-sears-wishbooks-1937-96-online/#comment-4268709 I recently picked one up. The cap has a clip similar to Sheaffer military clips. The cap and barrel material reminds me of Parker shadow waves. The nib is a well-made 14k marked Webster Gold Star and the barrel is marked Webster Made in USA. The knob on the end is stamped in two places with arrows indicating direction. Turning in the direction of the arrows (clockwise, these are left-hand threads) reveals threads attached to and turning with the knob. The knob turns until about 1/8" of threads are revealed, then stops hard. I have been working on removing the section with no luck so far. I assume it is some kind of piston filler, but can anyone tell me what I can expect to find once I get the section loose? Brian
  2. I know this post is a bit off topic but I'm wondering if anyone knows how the ballpoint refill mechanism worked for the Webster Skyrocket (see photos below). I know that Webster was the in-house brand for Sears, and for this pen the level of engineering on the refill seems really high. It is brass, and the two end pieces are friction fit. The front piece screws into the section (similar to Mont Blanc), and it is pretty heavy. I tried some eyedropper filling for fun -- wanting to see if the middle section had fiber material. That didn't seem to work -- probably would have required a fiber center piece running through the holes, which isn't there -- so I'm guessing that isn't the design. Any background on this pen and refill would be much appreciated. I'm inclined to adapt it to take a modern refill, but the brass piece is really unusual and I'd like to know the history of the design. Thanks much! Graham
  3. Hi. I got this nice Webster pen of an auction for $15 at the swedish ebay (Tradera). It have a dried up ink sac that need to be replaced, how do i remove the section in the best way. I found a similar pen on the internet and on that pen it seems like the section is removed just beneath the threads, is that correct? It has a nice 14k warranted #2 nib with som nice flex, but the tines are a little misaligned where the left tine is a little higher than the right. I think it works fine to write with but it would be nice to fix that too. And does anyone knows where i can find a new ring to the top of the cap? Best regard Pether
  4. Hello again, Everyone! Newbie here again who went out and spent a little money today (and this emoticon would represent my wife: ). This is a button filler stamped /engraved "Webster Chicago" then there's an empty diamond shape, then it reads "Pen - - ILL". The weird part is the stamping/engraving on the underside of the barrel. It appears to have been done at the factory, in the same style, and depth of the other stamping/engraving, only in a larger font. It reads "LILLIE TROJCAK" That is possibly a name (according to "The Google"), and it has me stumped as to why it would be on a pen. The nib appears to be gold, and not plated. It has a heart shaped breather hole. It is stamped "Gold Bond" over "14k" over 'Made in the USA". The bad: This pen is missing it's clip, it has some indentations like someone used to "nibble" on the end (not really chew, but left a few marks) and the ink sack was disintegrated. I removed most of the ink sack, very carefully, and removed the button mechanism to clean the pen (with no damage, I might add!). Question #1: Any idea of what size ink sac a Webster button filler would take? I'd like to keep this one as a writer. Question #2: Where would I begin to look for a replacement clip? Question #3: Is it worth it for this pen? I bought it because I like the colors of the celluloid, to be honest. I'd like to keep it and write with it. Was $20.00 too much to spend on a pen in this condition? Probably..... --Eric
