    Waterman 52 lever advice please

Hello FPNers, I bought a Waterman 52 in amazing condition 5 months ago. But recently, the lever has not been staying in place in the closed position. It keeps popping up a little bit. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it? Many thanks! Best, John

    Waterman 52 advice please

Hello fellow FPNers, I am considering buying a pen which the seller has described as a "Waterman 52", but I noticed that the clip is attached near the top of the cap (please refer to the attached images). I know the Waterman 52v has a higher-mounted clip like the pen on sale, but all of the other Waterman 52's I have seen so far show the clip attached lower down on the cap. Could someone please tell me if the Waterman 52 ever came with a higher-mounted clip? Is the pen for sale actually a Waterman 52? Or is it some sort of Waterman frankenpen? Your advice would be much appreciated! Best, John

  5. Recently acquired my first vintage Waterman, a BCHR 52 1/2V, and did a double take when it arrived in the mail. I knew these were small pens, but I didn't know they were THAT small. Yowza. That said, upon inking it up, it writes beautifully and I am absolutely in love with the flex nib. So I'm sold on vintage Watermans, but which model should I really be looking for? The obvious answer is a regular 52, but I'm worried that the barrel might still be too thin. My ideal (no pun intended) pen size is somewhere between a Parker 51 and a Pelikan M600. Is there a BCHR flex-nibbed Waterman that fits this particular bill?

The Clip Fell Off My Waterman 52!

I have a woodgrain Waterman Model 52, which I haven't been using a lot but kept in a pen carrier. I notice that the gold clip has recently fallen off, revealing a glob of what looks a lot like epoxy. Any advice on how these were actually put together, and maybe how to put it back? I still have the clip, btw. Thanks, all.

Where To Buy A Waterman 52

Where can I buy a good condition Waterman 52 (preferably in the UK)?
  8. For a long time I've wanted a full-flex vintage pen. I have an Eversharp Skyline with a medium flex nib (gifted by a FPN member) which I love, but would like to go one step further. I've looked at the fleabay prices for Waterman 52's and other vintage full flexes and they are just too expensive. However, I can afford one of the plastic bodied Desiderata pens. Does anyone have experience with both types: vintage and Desidarata? How do they compare? I realise that the latter is basically a dip nib with an ink supply and I have very little experience with dip nibs. But the price is so tempting. Thanks :bunny01:

    Waterman 52 1/2 V Pressure Bar

I just acquired a Waterman 52 1/2 V pen, and the pressure bar has an approx. 30 deg bend in it. I'm pretty sure that's why the seller unloaded it, noting that the lever is broken. I don't think the lever is broken, but I'm concerned about how fragile the pressure bar is. Any tips on straightening this out and minimizing the chance of truly breaking it? I'll try to post some pics when I return home.
  10. Here's a saturated blue that's sadly not unique enough to strike my fancy. While its behavior on copy paper leaves me disappointed, it's very good on Rhodia, if a bit unremarkable. Being the sheen junkie that I am I'd rather find a comparable color with lots of sheen from Diamine than spend the money on Ottoman Azure. Still, there are far worse inks you could get. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/18/fdnx.jpg Please remember to vote on this ink in the poll!
  11. This is a poorly named ink about which I can't seem to make up my mind. On one hand, it's got soul, and plenty of it. On the other hand, it's so got-dang saturated that it dries out in the nib within seconds of not being used. It does take on a unique rusty hue when diluted, and the added water helps with some of the performance issues. Worth a try before you buy a full bottle outright (like I did ). http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/716/9i8s.jpg
  12. Here's a nice, heavily shading ink from Private Reserve that I enjoyed reviewing. However, I still think Apache Sunset—more saturated, even heavier shading—is the better orangey/yellowy ink. Apache Sunset is the benchmark by which all other shade-heavy orange/yellow inks are judged. Still though, Shoreline Gold is a great ink most definitely worth a try. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/547/rd75.jpg Please remember to vote on this ink in the poll!

    A Modern Day Waterman 52

a few days ago, I had the misfortune of being handed a Waterman 52 to try out. It looked really ordinary until the nib hit the paper. Whoaaaaaaaaaa.... that is the most extraordinary nib I've ever had the chance to use. It is what I wanted my Noodler's Ink Ahab to be. It was perfect. It was old and kinda...well old. Now the question is...is there a modern day equivalent to this pen? Do I have to go vintage? I've seen some mint/NOS Waterman52 going for upwards of $800. Ever since that encounter, I can't think of any other pen. I really really love the perfect feel of that nib.
  14. I figure there are a million "show your pen" threads, so what could one more hurt. Post here and show your Waterman collections, segregated by material, age, era, or however you see. But they do have to be grouped with similar Watermans. Here are my hard rubber and HR-derived Watermans, not counting a 15 PSF and a Paisley pattern 0552½V I received in the mail today. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/21/lho6.jpg Share yours!
  15. I'm back! After (what, a year?) I finally have time to do reviews again! Well, I've still been doing them, but without a working scanner, and with no time to set up a photo situation that's up to my standards, I haven't posted a new on in a while. I used to scan the reviews at a high resolution, but photobucket started to hate on my data usage and I had three separate PB accounts full of review pics. Getting accurate color out of the scans was always exceedingly difficult, and I'd always wanted to switch over to taking the pics with a camera using noon daylight (CRI of 100 is hard to argue with) using a custom white balance, but until recently I just hadn't had time. So no more super-high resolution reviews, and unfortunately I'm still using my first DSLR so the best I can do right now is 10 megapixels (not including any cropping), but the color should be much more spot on. I'm also going to do something new with newly posted reviews—a poll. You'll be able to vote! A simple question: "Do you like the ink?" I'm not asking if you like the reviews, just the inks. So enjoy! I'll be posting many more—and with a backlog of about 70 already-written reviews and more being written all the time, the supply should last a while. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/838/qhmh.jpg
