  1. Is there anyone who may be able to give at least some possible model numbers/names and the pattern for this Edward Todd? These are the only pictures I have at this point. The seller believes it may have a size 4 nib but is not able to confirm until later.
  2. Hi everyone! I have just been told by my cousin that I am going to be receiving a fountain pen from inheritance. The pen is a Swan 4660. My question is, what is a respectable price for a Swan 4660 that is near mint/mint possibly unused? I have NO intention of selling, and am not interested in the ridiculous amounts things go for on ebay - I'm simply wondering what a pen such as this is worth approximately given no unrealistic bidding etc? To me it is priceless and may or may not be used by me ever, I'm scared to use something possibly new old stock. While we're at it, what would a used but excellent condition one be worth being reasonable with pricing? Sorry that this is a weird question, I'd just rather know if I should protect this pen not only for personal reasons, but also monetary reasons. Thank you all! If I get the pen soon, I will upload photos!
  3. Hi, I'm waiting for a about 100 years (?) old Mabie Todd Swan eyedropper from Ireland. I found the nib fascinating... Will it be fine, much flex? My pen doesn't have an overfeed, is it missing here? Some photos here: https://www.ebay.de/itm/EARLY-20th-C-SWAN-PEN-MABIE-TODD-SWAN-PEN-SWAN-METAL-POCKET-1915-/153109745032 Can't wait to see how it writes. Best Jens
  4. Hello again experts, After everyone was so helpful to finding out more about my Swan 105/60 I'd been on the hunt for more Mabie Todd pens. I snagged this at auction recently and it has none of the numbers I was expecting on it. Is because it's an American made pen? In any case, I'd love some more info on it if anyone has any. Looking forward to restoring this beauty!
  5. Hello - it appears Edward Todd topics are acceptable here as well. I've done some searching but so far haven't been able to find out much beyond generic company information on the pen below. Can anyone help out with more approximate dating, model info, etc? Also, I can't easily determine the nib material so I'm not sure how far to take it trying to clean it up.
  6. A Mabie, Todd & Bard with a robust sterling overlay. Wrote out of the box. The nib is an unusual nailish one. The price when new was 30 shilling or a bit more what I see on advertisements. I would date it to 1900 - 1905. The chemistry book is from 1897. It was used by an assayer of the mint in Belgium. Cepasaccus
  7. Hi, I'm new to using fountain and dip pens, but they've always sounded really cool. When I saw a dip pen at an antique store last month, I ended up coming home with it. I would really appreciate any information you may know about it! On the back of the nib it says: A Edward Todd & Co New York 2 It has a mother of pearl handle, and yellow metal. Even if you don't have much information about it, I have some specific questions: 1. Does the nib part look too long? Photos I've seen of pens similar to this one (I haven't seen any exactly like it) seem to have shorter nibs. 2. What type of writing is it probably meant for? 3. What should I soak the metal part in to be able to separate the nib without breaking it? 4. What size nib is it? 5. (May mean the same thing as 3) What do I use to clean it? Thanks!
  8. Hi. I got this pen for about $8 of an auction at Tradera (swedish eBay) I have tried to find som information about the pen without any luck. The thing i have found out is that the swan symbol should be the logo for Mabie Todd. Is that correct? The modell is a Standard Pen and is a piston filler with a nr. 4 Ero 14k F nib with some flex. Does anyone know something about this pen modell? Best regards Pether Olsson
  9. Hey folks, I have a small dilemma. I've had this Mabie Todd Blackbird BB2-60 for a couple of months now but I just cannot get on with it at all. The nib is a medium and, looking closely at it, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been sprung some time in the past and reset. I love the BCHR and it is in very good condition in that respect. It's just that damned nib. I actually find using a Zebra G dip pen easier to use than this Blackbird nib. Has anyone else struggled with the Mabie Todd nibs. I am on the verge of giving up - which is a real shame as I like the pen overall - and selling it off for half the price I paid (or even giving it away if I cannot get that). In frustration.
  10. My first fountain pen review post here on FPN, so I would gladly welcome any feedback and comments. http://i.imgur.com/5ZpPIbW.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/gNx6toZ.jpg A note, it's certainly not that blue in real life, it's far more of a grey/steel blue than that vibrant blue.
  11. Recently I placed an order from iSellPens.com. I opted for isellpens over Goulet Pens, and I don't regret it one bit. No, I may not have gotten a Tootsie pop – even better. I managed to get some money after selling one of my old textbooks on eBay, so I decided I would treat myself to a bottle of Diamine Denim, Noodler's Black, a Pilot Metropolitan and a few other small things for school. Not a big order by any means, but it got to me quicker than I could believe. I placed my order on a Friday, and it was here Monday morning without my spending a small fortune on shipping, unless $3 is considered a small fortune. (5% off my order, too!) Being a student just starting off, I was incredibly excited to open up my order when it arrived. I opened up the box and...."did Todd mess up my order?" Nope! Without requesting anything, he was so incredibly kind as to include a few ink samples with a 17 year old guy's order! – Now – as you can imagine, I was excited to get a Metropolitan and two bottles of ink, but receiving those on the side absolutely made my day. ––– That's not all though. The way in which Todd packaged my order was unbelievable. He included a hand-written note inside of the Fort-Knox-tough package –– a great added touch. I e-mailed back and forth with Todd a bit and soon realized what an outstanding guy he is. He is a man of great integrity, faith, and honesty with an interest in his customers. It's a small family-run business, but that's what I really like about it. He truly cares about his customers and runs an honest business where he does his best to provide great prices and service. I just want to encourage those on this awesome community to check his website out and support small businesses like his that may not always have the same benefits as the larger ones on the block. He truly is a great guy. Those are my thoughts, anyway. Thanks!
