  1. Hello, I am planning to make my pens as possible as custom made, so I need special metrics for threading. There are many threading solutions, I know Tapping is one of them The matter is the taps and dies with triple/quatro leads are so expensive. They are made of (oftenly) HSS, that is why lifespans are not so long. My commissioners are asking for usually 12mm, 13mm, 13.5mm, 14mm, 14,5mm and 15mm multistart barrel threads. The total price for a whole set is not so affordable recently.. That is why I decided to make them manually, I have some solutions to make it easy There are couple of videos and essays I ve found on web, they are all about metal threading. The materials we are using are not that much strong, mostly thel are brittle.. As I succeed to make a proper one, I am going to share all stages here. I am just curious if anybody made anything about this problem? Is there anything to be aware of before starting
  2. Hi, I am in the process of restoring a nice green marble effect Swan Mabie Todd which was used extensively by my great mother in law. Unfortunately the cap no longer holds securely on the barrel threads. It appears to catch slightly, but a normal firming pressure causes it to slip and the cap to come loose again. The thread on the barrel is clearly pretty flattened and presumably the cap thread is the same. Is there anything which can be done? Cheers, E.
  3. Hi. I am a newbie (not to fountain pens, but to fp blogs) and this is my first post, so be gentle with me. Hopefully, the answer to my question is not an obvious one that will bring forth a chorus of “Der!”. One of the pens in my collection (list below) - the Conway Stewart Winston - has a slight issue in that, when I screw on the cap, the thread seems just a little stiff and slightly more pressure is needed to rotate the cap. It is not that there is any significant resistance, or any risk of damage, it is just that all my other pens can be capped with a smooth motion. I have previously owned a couple of modern Conway Stewarts and they both had smoothly operating cap threads. Is there anything that I can use to lightly lubricate the thread to ease the process without damaging the resin from which the pen is made? Thanks in advance for your help! FP Collection I am a freelance company secretary (known as a corporate secretary in the US, I believe) and have a portfolio of clients for whom I minute board meetings. I always use fountain pens to do so (before producing the minutes in MSWord) and all of my pens (except the Conway Stewart, which is too large) are regularly used for this purpose. So I am a constant fp user with a large handwritten output. · Conway Stewart Winston : Classic Claret · Montblanc Meisterstuck 146 · Pelikan Souveran M800 : Black (TWO) · Pelikan Souveran M800 : Green · Onoto Dickens Collection : Chuzzlewit · Onoto Magna : Havana Brown · Pilot Custom 823 : Black Demonstrator · Parker Duofold Centennial : Jasper Red
