  1. Which fountain pen inks would you use to test an unfamiliar paper product for (at least some aspects of) its fountain pen friendliness? Recently I've been in a frenzy of acquiring more notepads and notebooks, on which to write with fountain inks, largely in brick-and-mortar stores with Japanese names such as Daiso, Muji and Kinokuniya. Unfortunately, it is not common practice for stores here to have samples or tester units of paper products; Daiso has none, and Muji may put out just one or two but not selected on the basis of either, "compare our premium made-in-Japan writing paper, against
  2. My partner has access to a chemistry lab and there she could easily test my inks for their pH levels. Sometimes I hear discussions about this or that ink pH. Is it something anybody's really interested in? Because, for example, my partner tells me she'd require less than 1 ml of ink to test it for its pH level, so I could give her samples of the half-a-dozen inks I have without shedding a tear, and I could share the knowledge here (and whenever I buy and test more ink). But I'd like to know if there's a demand for this kind of information. After all, I'd be spending my ink and her time on
  3. Hi, I'm going to start my first forays into ink mixing but I'm not sure what equipment I'll need. I already have two large ink syringes for measurements and imagine that I'll need vials into which I put the mixes. Where can I get the vials from? I've tried fleabay, but don't think I'm using the correct search terms because nothing suitable comes up. How do you test the mixes? Do you use dip pens, reserve a cheap fountain pen or just do a swab? I would imagine that putting the ink into a fountain pen would be the only true test? Or am I being naive? I'm surprised there isn't a pinned thread
  4. I'd like to test some of my inks for water resistance. However, I've noticed that people test differently, and when I test, I get different results on different papers. Can we discuss an appropriately rigorous determination of resistance? I'd like to standardize my approach. For example: What paper should be used? Are there any papers known to shed inks better than others? How much water? For how long? Dropped, swabbed, scrubbed, soaked, run over the paper, or licked? Do you blot off the water? Wipe it? Let it evaporate? How should ink be laid down? Grids? Words? Solid lines? Is there
  5. I'm coming out with a new brand of notebooks: Furrow Books. They come in two sizes, small and large and contain 48 and 96 pages respectively. The pages are blank but include a two-sided ruled insert which provides users the option for blank, lined, or graph ruling anywhere throughout their notebook. We also selected a paper that's fountain pen friendly. I'm looking for testers to send some notebooks to once I get the mock-ups in tomorrow (Thursday) and get some feedback from. If you'd be interested in trying out the notebooks or would just like more information about them, you can check them
