Sailor Pro Gear Slim Mini in three colours at 50%-off at Bunbougu

Two Three out of the six first (re-)release colours of the Sailor Professional Gear Slim Mini, in the since-discontinued design with the external thread at the end of the barrel (for securely posting the cap without scuffing the barrel's glossy finish), are on 50%-off offer at Bunbougu.com.au. The discounted price is AUD $172.50 each, and just one would qualify for free delivery (to Australian addresses). That isn't a bad price at all for local stock. I was absolutely chuffed to be able to secure yet another colour of that old design, when I was in Tokyo earlier this month. If I didn't already have the two three colours on this offer from Bunbougu, I wouldn't be posting about it now, but would have already snapped them up; they were obviously my first choice colours, already bought at just under US$100 each, three years ago. -
Three 'taupe' (grey brown) fountain pen inks, two French, one German: J. Herbin La Perle des Encres Cacao du Bresil L'Artisan Pastellier Classique Brun Ours Rohrer & Klingner Schreibtinte Sepia These three colors are very close. Two of them are nearly indistinguishable, at least to me, but there are differences. I'm tentatively planning a combined review of these three similarly-colored inks but, in the meantime, here's a teaser quiz: three writing samples with my normal, quick note-taking hand, all using the same type of pen - 3 different Pilot 78Gs with 'B' nibs, a dry pen with a fairly crisp italic nib that I enjoy a lot - Rhodia paper from a pad, and each writing sample uses a different one of the above three inks. The photos were taken in the same light at nearly the same time (late afternoon indirect sun). The goal of this quiz is to match the ink - Cacao du Bresil, Brun Ours, & Sepia - used with each writing sample: A, B, & C. After you have had a few days to take a guess I will try to post chromatography photos. And your impressions of the inks are welcome and encouraged, of course!

Contents: 1 Sailor Professional Gear Slim Midnight Ocean with a Zoom nib 2 Sailor Professional Gear Slim Mini, in taupe and slate green 3 Sailor converters to suit the Professional Gear Slim Mini I'm delighted by how quickly my order from EndlessPens in Florida on Black Friday 2020 was delivered to me in Australia, in spite of: the Sailor mini converters were a pre-order item at the time, with a notice to say “will ship on December 3” on the product page, which will hold up the other in-stock items on the same order; I received a communiqué from EndlessPens on 3 December (Sydney time, so 2 December in the US) to advise there would be shipping delays while they dealt with 7 days of backlog after the Black Friday sales; and these were sent by USPS First Class International post — and, given the temporarily halved free international shipping threshold at the time of ordering, I wasn't expecting different — and I've seen major (six-week) delays with parcels sent that way to me earlier in second half of 2020. I'm also pleasantly surprised that the Sailor Pro Gear Slim pens are still factory-sealed in their plastic sleeves, while the Sailor Pro Gear came with a regular converter that wasn't mentioned in the product listing as an inclusion in the price.© A Smug Dill
