  1. Ink Review : Diamine Silver Fox (150th Anniversary Ink) Pen: Lamy Logo, F-nib Paper: Rhodia N°16 notepad 80 gsm Review This ink is part of the 8-ink collection that Diamine released to celebrate their 150th anniversary (1864-2014). The set has a number of very interesting colors, and this is one of the better inks in this collection. Silver Fox... the name evokes the image of a snow-covered pine forest at sunrise. A black and white painting: white snow in the clearing, the almost black silhouette of the pine trees, dirty-grey snow on the forest floor. All is quiet... then movement... a shy silver fox silently appears, blending in with the landscape. The fox's fur providing perfect camouflage, with specs of white, light and dark grey, to almost black. A blink of the eye, and the stealthy canine has disappeared. All is quiet again... only paw-prints in the snow remain. This ink perfectly captures the above setting. A lovely grey with great shading properties, that covers the gamut from very light to almost black-grey tones. This is a pure grey with no colored undertones, as shown in the chromatography. A very satisfying ink with good flow and fabulous shading - even with the finer nibs. You might think that grey is dull - but not in this case ! This ink is like the playful fox... a joy to write with, and with a very eye-pleasing result on the paper. This ink is at home with all types of writing - from intimate love-letter to formal business letter. This Silver Fox adapts very nicely... I'm really fond of it. OK - but how does it behave on paper ? For this, I did some tests: Rhodia N°16 notepad 80 gsm - drying time ~35 seconds, no feathering, no show-through and no bleed-throughPaperblanks journal paper - drying time 15-20 seconds, no feathering, no show-through, no bleed-throughGeneric notepad paper 70 gsm - drying time ~20 seconds, no feathering, minimal show-through, no bleed-throughMoleskine journal - drying time ~10 seconds, no feathering, noticeable show-through but no bleed-through (with my fine nib)This is a very well-behaving ink, even on cheap paper like that of a Moleskine journal. Drying times on fountain-pen-friendly paper are on the long side, but this hasn't really bothered me. Water resistance is surprisingly good. Even with 30 seconds under running tap water, a perfectly legible light-grey text remains. All-in-all, a top-notch ink. Conclusion Silver Fox is definitely a crown-jewel in the 150th Anniversary ink collection. It is a very well-behaving ink with a beautiful grey color. And that shading... it's just phenomenal ! Excellent work from Diamine. my overall score: A+

    12 grey inks

From the album: Shades of colour

This was spliced together as a byproduct of something else I was doing, drawn on Rhodia DotPad 80g/m² 5mm dot grid paper, and colour corrected in GIMP against reference greyscale targets that were scanned alongside the original sheets.

    Quick Grey Comparison

Put them next to other colours and they're just grey; put them next to each other and the differences become pronounced. In this scan you can see my current selection of grey inks next to each other: Diamine Silver Fox (my basic clear grey, the one I chose over Diamine Grey and Herbin Gris Nuage), Diamine Earl Grey (the new kid on the block that triggered this new exploration), Iroshizuku fuyu-syogun and Diamine Graphite (an ink that I had tried and abandoned but with fond memories that made me get a new 30 ml bottle). I've given up trying to correct scans and monitors concerning colour but the above scan seems alright on my computer, except for the hues of Earl Grey and Graphite, which appear too bluish. The following photograph is a bit darker but closer to the colours I see in daylight. I hope this quick comparison helps anyone looking for a grey ink. It has reaffirmed my own preference for Silver Fox as the clearest grey but I'm quite taken with the shading of Earl Grey. All four inks are well-behaved, even in my often temperamental Pilot Capless pens.
  5. http://inks.pencyklopedia.pl/wp-content/uploads/Diamine-150th-Anniversary-Silver-Fox-nazwa.png I present to test the ink Diamine 150th Anniversary Silver Fox with a beautiful gray color. Very nice shade. Ink very well written. Technical parameters also good. The ink was developed to celebrate the 150 th anniversary of the company Diamine. The series consists of 8 new colors not available in the standard palette, packaged in a triangular bottle that set the sides together form a closed circle. I would recommend. 6. I have decided to review some of my inks. These aren't necessarily in any particular order. This one is Diamine 150th Anniversary Ink Silver Fox. I would call it a light grey. It doesn't seem to lean towards green or blue specifically. So it's a nice neutral grey. It's a very well behaved ink with some shading. I found it flowed smoothly across the page, and had no problems with lubrication in the 2 pens I used. I must admit I didn't like the nib on the SMT and found it difficult to write with. This ink exhibits no showthrough or bleedthrough on my thick paper, so I tried it on some cheaper paper. It isn't a saturated ink, and a comparison with Montblanc Einstein shows that. The water test on the review form shows this isn't a waterproof ink, but it's reasonably resistant for a short time. Bearing in mind the paper I use is very smooth, and the nib used at that time was an Italic, this ink took 17-18 secs to dry. It flows through the pen well and lubricates the nib well. I saw no skips or hard starts from either of the pens that both stayed uncapped while I swapped and changed, and did swabs and comparisons with other inks. It is currently available in special 40ml cake slice shaped glass bottles. Diamine sell it directly to end-users on their web-site.
